Chatbots are pretty much the lowest common denominator when it comes to AI.
We just had a presentation today from a colleague who went to some sort of AI convention. Rather than present powerpoint slides, he used a video of an AI "man" who was reading out his presentation. It was very good, you wouldn't have known it was AI really. He also said that Google have had talks with our new PM in the first week of office, to specifically discuss AI. These sort of talks are apprently unprecendented so early on. So yes, AI is here to stay. In legitimate business it serves a good purpose and can be fairly easily regulated. It's everything else that is a minefield

It isn't a fad, and it will actually get a whole lot better, because they will actually be able to answer your questions rather than telling you to look in the FAQ.

AI is here to stay, and is only going to improve. Whether that is a good thing is open to debate, but trying to suggest it is only a fad, implying it will go away is Canute-like (And yes, I know Canute didn't actually think he could stop the tide, he was deliberately demonstrating he wasn't all powerful).

I used the word "fad" to goad the techies into a reaction. A bit of harmless mischief. I apologise.

What's the limit on the number of characters allowed in a thread title? @Accy cyclist , do you know?

I don't know, but as I posted my very long intended thread title for this thread Reading about someone called David Grhol fathering a 'love child' it made me wonder which famous person I'd like to be the love child of, after starting a second line it wouldn't allow anymore words

from about the same point as the above, excluding the actual thread title in blue of course. 🧐

I have a Ford Kuga hybrid as a hire car at the moment.

This morning when I got in it it told me that the battery was empty, so I assumed that I'd be using petrol.

Why then, when I finish my journey, does it say that over half of it was on electric?

Because hybrids charge the battery while the engine is running, with "spare" electricity, then use it when they can.

Though in that distance, it wouldn't have charged much.

It's got a charging cable with it, but as work's paying for the fuel I'll not be plugging it in at home.

Everyday it says the same thing, last Friday it had no charge, but of the 200 miles home from Glasgow 45 of them were supposedly electric.

It regenerates power when braking or going down hill.
And everyone knows it’s down hill from Scotland.

I went to the laundry today On emptying my bag of washed clothes etc I noticed that the three colour catches I'd put in the washing machine with my washing didn't have any dye on them. In fact they looked like they'd just been taken out of their package, not been through a hot 30 minute wash. My question is could I use them again, or even though they look good will their colour absorbing abilities have been washed away on that hot 30 minute wash? 🤔

Another question. I asked a perfectly reasonable question. Why hasn't anyone answered it? 🤔 🧐
