One presumes he gets out, crosses on foot through the pedestrian gate and opens both main gates on his return, drives through, stops, crosses to close the first gate and then closes the second gate behind him before returning to the car....

I've never seen him do this mind, nor am I sure when he telephones the Crossing chappie as I'm too busy drinking martinis.

I rather suspect he telephones the nice signalman and orders the trains to stop until we're through.

As Archie's chauffeur, I can confirm this is what happens. By the way, I'm praying for a tanker drivers strike because the mean so and so hasn't given me a day off since the 2000 strike.

In 2000, it was a blockade, not a strike. A blockade by hauliers, IIRC.

The Furness line has a multitude of semaphore signals and serves to carry NUclear Waste Trains Of Death to Sellafield, which probably means 2 NUWTODs will crash into each other at some point causing widespread mayhem. They've managed all right for 60 years but there's always a first time.

Any longer than 25% of its origional length and it ceases to be a "piece of string".
So a piece of string that is 100% of it's original length (i.e. the same length) is no longer a piece of string? I think you've created a paradox. Or a new EU regulation. Mwuhaha.....

Authorised to cross via the wicket gates, but not authorised to drive through the field gates as the road is private and the landowner is entitled to restrict access by motor vehicle, but not to restrict pedestrian access.
(I think:smile:)

Not the EU to blame on this one. It was research carried out in the USA to finally answer this question that came up the 25% figure.

They were by the way paid for doing this important it of research.

That'll be where the mistakes came in then. One focus group would have been using imperial measurements, the other group using metric. Anything involving American research will result in paradoxical results.

Percentages would remain the same whichever unit of measurement was used, wouldn't it?

Must be one of the leading groups in string theory. ;)

Only if metric measurements were kept with metric measurements, and imprial with imperial. Americans have a history of mixing oranges and apples with disastrous results.

Agreed. But my assumption, percetages reamaining the same, was based on them using only the one set at a time.
