The Sinclair winter bike has had the wheels from the Ian May now fitted and surprisingly I have 7 gears selecting on the work stand .
Whilst I was there I gave the chain a quick clean.
Next up will be wipe round the paintwork and see what the headset is like.
Then it will be ready for the road.

Just picked up a nice set of Ultrega hubbed wheels that came with what looked like a nice Bianchi ev3 frame but as I was looking around it I noticed the rack that looks like someone has just drilled mounting points into the frame....

Shame as it looks a nice bike will know more when I try to remove the rack .

Seeing as I was only wanting it for the wheels anything else is a bonus.

I’ve had one of those through my hands, they’re not the best.

Another tinkering session this morning has seen the wheels that came off the Bianchi swapped to the Ian May.

I also had a look at a Dawes Jaguar that's awaiting re commissioning. Needs to get the decals off and see what's happening underneath them hopefully they have air pockets underneath or if not then it must be something in the paint underneath so time will tell.

I was thinking last night when I started messing around with bikes about 15 years ago £50 bought you a fairly decent spec run of the mill steel bike but certainly nothing with tubing made by Reynolds etc etc and certainly nothing aluminium.
Now you can pick up a very lightly used alloy road bike for just over the £50 mark if you look hard enough. And for less than £50 you can find a very used alloy framed one which is still functional and looks tidy enough.

I started about the same time and you’re right prices have really changed, ally framed older racing bikes are just not worth doing now as they’re worth so little. I mainly buy and sell Bromptons now as I’m tuned into the values and they always sell. The challenge is buying them for the right money.

:eek:Who does things like that?

I thought I was a cack-handed bodger but that is another level. (I'd have duck taped it to the frame)

Yes I was amazed when I looked at it initially and thought why not use p clips.

I thought p clips were designed for that kind of job.

They are .

The back end is in tact and feels solid enough but it's just wrong and a waste of a nice frame.
