Batesey has been cycling Bourne way a lot lately but I normally go to Wakely or Fineshade Woods . With the new Giant bike shop opening there they have put in some good cycle routes in the woods and the cafe there does a fab chocolate cake

Chocolate cake....mmmmm worth a vist...will have to arrange a getogether for the three of us at some point!

Sounds good, be nice to meet a fellow cyclist who lives nearby

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

Hello Y'all, and thanks for your welcome Shaun.

As you can probably see from my user name I'm from Liverpool. I'm 52 years old and recently bought a second hand Giant commuter, hybrid and I've never been off it since I bought it. I'm really enjoying it at the moment. I haven't done anything too strenuous as yet, just out there trying to build my stamina (and my legs) up.
I've been perusing your website for a couple of months now and really love it. There's a lot of humour out there, nice one. Also very informative. I have cycled on and off over the years but nothing too strenuos as I say. Apart from a couple of trips to the south of France in my twenties.

I'm not sure what contribution I can make as yet but I am looking forward to being a part of your community.

Thanks again.

Hi All
Right here goes; I'm Jason from the cycling Mecca of Peterborough!! Been crazy about bikes for most my life and have recently managed to get my collection of bike down from 18 to 5 :-) Zesty, Vassago Jabberwocky, custom Pipedream Ti, Fuji CX and a rather odd FELT beach cruiser with rather catching flames adorning the frame:-)
My cycling has been quite limited over the past few years due to children but I'm looking to get back to regular pedalling soon so if anyone local to Peterborough knows of any hidden gem trails in the area then let me know.

Hi
I live in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I am in the middle of a project to cycle round every cathedral in Britain, one week / 400 miles at a time, which has mushroomed as there are now 6 of us. Getting back at the end of each trip to Newcastle upon Tyne, where we all live, is fine when the trip ends somewhere on a mainline railway station.
Not so easy when that year's trip ends up somewhere where the local trains only allow 2 bikes on a train at a time, sometimes not even bookable. We could of course travel back in pairs or hire a van and drive. Has anyone any other solution that would allow us all to travel back together?

On my time off after Afghan, i was thinking about taking a week or so out to cycle from my mums up in Scotland to my home in Devon. I had thought about going the other way but I have it in my head that because I will be cycling south, it will be more downhill that up hill! Silly man I hear you mutter haha!
Well its dinner time over here so I'm away to have some delightful rice and peas. Yum.
Take care, Oliver

It's wind direction you need to think about - mostly southerlies in the summer ...

Hi I'm derek, well er I'm not actually derek in real life, but I'm incognito as I'm supposed to be working, you probably know how it is. I ride everyday, usually with dog and at least once a week with humans, at night this time of year.
Have been riding ATB's for many years, but recently it all took on a new lease of life following a visit to Whistler for a sales meeting for the company I work for, I hired a bike, then got some new training and how things had changed, I thought I knew how to ride pretty well, I didn't.
Then I went on another course at UK Bike skills which took things to an entirely different level, did stuff I didn't think I'd ever likely do at my time of life, (not ever wanting to crash, get injured lose time off work) so suddenly I'm a born again biker, got myself a new Transition Covert so I can go down to the Alps now and then and the rest of the time ride around looking for manageable stuff to chuck myself off.
Anyway that's it, I'll chip in as and when I'm interested otherwise I'll lurk for a while get to see what's what.

Hello from Staffordshire Moorlands.

I've been cycling for over 30 years and had some great holidays cycle camping. At the moment I'm using a Dawes Super Galaxy but also have a tandem.

Hope to join in conversation with like-minded soles soon.

Hello. Been stalking the forum for sometimes. I'm a beginner cyclist. I may not be able to join most of the conversation here due the lack of the knowledge, skills and experiences but I'm trying hard to learn stuff at the mo. My aim is to start commuting by bike on a part or the whole of 12 mile route (each way) next year.
