Hi all,
Cycled a lot when younger.. Got into it again because I'm older and fatter, and well, I miss it. I either ride my new specialized crosstrail, or my triumph trophy 1200, although use the motorbike less and less. Hate cars.
Lucky to live in Poole, so masses of cycle ways and lovely places to go in safety. I work in Poole as well, so no excuse not to commute, birlfriend lives only 5 miles away so no excuse there either! She's started riding too which is great.
I've been on the bike for 3 weeks, averaging about 40 miles a week at the moment, but pushing that out quickly. I ride for fitness (I need some!) and pleasure. I love being in the elements.
I'm amazed at both how quickly my body is adapting, and how much I'm loving it and finding a huge stress buster. I have a busy job (teacher) so any relief in that area is good.
Cheers,
Matt

Hi - been cycling for more years than not, have an easy two mile journey into work.
I bought a 80's road bike very cheaply recently to save worrying about my tourer getting nicked - now find the road bike so lovely I've not used the tourer since. And would be heartbroken if the road bike got nicked.

(I haven't totally forgotten the tourer though - hope when better weather comes along, it'll get a proper airing...)

Hi. Nige here from Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire, and a classic, self-confessed MAMIL stereotype. 41 yo with a pair of dicky knees that have become increasing intolerant to mountaineering and even mountain biking. It's actually 'runner's knee', so it can be sorted with some exercise. How to exercise when your knees are s***ged out? It seems that the answer was to go to Evans 'for a look around' and come out with a 2011 Specialized Allez Elite and a pair of Look Keo Max 2s.

A week later, riding every lunchtime for 30 mins (I am self-employed, so this is easy to sort), and I have been able to get a decent workout with no signals at all coming from the knees. And, just like my skiing* and guitar playing, it's a new hobby that involves buying expensive stuff. I'm in heaven.

Nige.

*Yeah, I have no idea how I am able to ski at instructor level with knees like this ... I think it's a fixed geometry thing, same with the Keos.

Hi. Simon from Stamford in Lincolnshire. New to the world of road biking and just getting in training for London to Paris next year for local charity. have discovered i seem to love hoobies that tend to cost a lot of money, snowboarding, golf and now biking, but hey keeps me out of trouble i suppose.

So im riding a Giant Defy 4 whcih i managed to get with a good reduction off the price, and a pair of Look Keo Classics., finally getting used to my feet being stuck to the pedals, but all good so mustnt complain.

Already looking to make some upgrades to the bike, so i can see it is only gonna get more expensive. but worth every penny im sure.

Hi everyone,

I live in Birmingham and started cycling in to work in about June/July, it's only 7 miles round trip, but after doing it for 4 months on a crappy 2nd hand e-bay bike, I decided to get a Boardman hybrid as I'm not much of a mountain-biker and didn't want to restrict my cycling to perfect surfaces.

I love my new bike and now enjoy cycling leisure time too, it's helping me get very fit.

I did a 30 mile trip last week and found it a lot of fun, (if my bum didn't by the end!) I'm hoping to slowly increase my journeys and do London-Brighton which I understand is very doable, then hopefully holidays/touring in France.

Any tips/advice and especially recommended enjoyable training routes would be gratefully received!

Cheers

Hi, after threatening for years that when my ancient jalopy of a car went to the great scrapyard in the sky I would settle for a bike and make do. I don't think anyone ever took me seriously so I decided to prove them wrong.

Still looking to buy a car but in the meantime it's cycling to work, town, and generally trying to improve my fitness, given that I've not had a bike of my own since I was 10 and have only ridden one a handful of times in the last 20/30 years I'm not doing too badly.

Gone from a ride of 1 mile leaving me shattered, to six miles leaving me pleasantly needing a rest, in about a month. (and have promised myself a better bike if I keep it up for over 6 months)

Hello guys 'n gals,

Getting back in the saddle after an 8 year pause, on my way to 40 and have always cycled (well up untill 2004). Never been overly serious about it , cycling was a means of getting from A to B, always enjoyed it though but now I want to get out and ride for ridings sake not to mention the asossiated ffittness.

Picked myself up a Forme rage 2011 hardtail and I must say I forgot how much resistance nobblies provide on the road. Road will probably be about 80-90% of my riding but I want to be able to rough it a bit too.

Will look to get a set of tyres with a good compromise for the riding i'll be doing.

Well hello all, look forward to getting some good tips and advice from the more experienced as mine grows.

Just joined so thought I would say hi to everyone..

I am a mountain bike girl at heart but have just got my first road bike so am hoping it's going to take me to places my mountain bike couldn't ;-)

Batesey has been cycling Bourne way a lot lately but I normally go to Wakely or Fineshade Woods . With the new Giant bike shop opening there they have put in some good cycle routes in the woods and the cafe there does a fab chocolate cake
