Helloooo,

I used to love Downhill and all things gravitational I rode a Kona stinky till i bent the frame (and most of my ribs, wrist etc) then Orange for a bit, then i found Merida's beautiful frames and fell in love (hence the name). Since the real world has caught up with me (job etc) i have found downhill bike most unsuitable for road cycling especially when some grey codger on an ancient road bike overtakes me even though im spinning my highest gear :/. as a result bought a trusty Merida 903 road race (gay name) and hit the roads  so much fun! and sooooooo fast  Road racing really is the shizz, even climbing uphills has become fun and a challenge. Although im sure i will never tire of riding long journeys, i have recently discovered fixed gear bikes and am looking for advice on building my own and of course for any ridin buddies in the Surrey area

Hi Shaun and everyone else on here
I'm Jez and I live in Thorpe Willoughby, just outside Selby. Currently riding a Specialized Allez Elite, but hopefully upgrading to a Cube in the near future (funds permitting).

Hi, 1st post on the forum but I've been looking for a while now. Getting back into cycling after a 15 year break due to health issues. The whole cycling world has changed a lot. Back in my day STI was PRO kit only because of the price!!!

Hello Fello Cyclists.

Im Vincent from east London. And new to the hobby. I led a very unhealthy lifestyle prior to taking up cyling a week ago.
Im in my mid 20s and the last time i got on a bike was in the late 80s when i had a bmx.
The other week i decided to take up cycling as a means of travelling and getting to places on the cheap and searched in the local classified ads for a Specialized Hardrock Pro so i can get started and use it to burn it up and down the local park to get my circulation going. . Gradualy when my legs got use to riding again i regularly take it down the local Marshes and forest so to take advantage of what the bike was designed for.
Im loving it and unfortunately none of my friends are into cycling and im a loner on the trails and my interest for cycling is getting intense . . . So i searched the net for a cycling group/forum and viola! I joined this. Hope to make new friends on here soon and share tips and stories.

Thanks for reading.

Vincent.

Hi from Shropshire
Stumbled across this site the other evening and really enjoyed some of the reads. I do a fair bit of riding, but nothing serious - just for fun and fresh air.

Hello all, greetings from Wembley, just outside the the shadow of the 'famous' arch

I've been riding a Brompton 6 speed for 3 years now, with on-off bursts of 3-6 mile rides to/from Harrow and an 11 mile one-way commute to work in Watford (come back on the train).

The last few weeks of Indian summer has got me into more of a habit and now I'm hankering after an entry level road bike to cut the commute time to <40mins and get into riding both ways, maybe 3 or 4 times a week to keep fit and save the mad petrol costs nowadays.

I'm looking to test Spec Allez Elite & Pinnacle Dolomite 3 at Evans on Thursday as a starting point. I'd welcome any other suggestions or contact with anyone else whose has had recent relevant experience or is going through a similar process now.

Nowthen,

Just getting back into cycling after a break of about 13 years and I've forgotten how much fun it is

Currently using an old Diamondback MTB called "Claude" for the 5 mile ride to the climbing wall as well as nipping around locally to shops and the pub. General fitness expected to improve!

Also starting to help the girlfriend train for a cycle touring holiday to Vietnam next year. I'm not going, she won the holiday the lucky mare! ;)

See you
James

Hi,

from St. Albans. Will be cycling as part of my commute (20 miles each day). Currently riding an old Ridgeback Hybrid but looking to upgrade to something speedier.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Hi - realised I should have put the 'welcome intro' here and not into a new thread. So ...

My name's David and I currently live in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

Like many, I'd put on a fair bit of weight over the years and promised myself a new bike (the first since I was 11 !) if I could do a bit of riding last year. Having succeeded I bought a Ridgeback Platinum in March this year.

Since then I've done over 2000 miles to date and am commuting most days 11 miles each way into Leeds. That's on 40/70 mph main roads so can be a bit hairy at times. I'm also out 2-3 times a week doing between 10 and 50 miles in the hills south of Dewsbury and average about 100 miles a week. Dewsbury to Holmfirth for coffee at Sid's Cafe (Last of the Summer Wine) is a regular ride. Last weekend I did the Wakefield bikeathon and enjoyed it, coming back 4th - so I'd like to do a few more of these.

Next year I'm planning on doing the Coast-to-Coast in the spring plus a few other rides.

Oh, and the weight? Well, I've lost 3 stone and am back down to the weight I was 20 years ago!

My other plans include getting proper clipless pedals, rather than the straps I've got atm, together with a few more organised rides and joining a local cycling club.

Hello,
firstly thanks for letting me join the forum, I can across it last week and found it very informative..

Well I'm Darren and live up on the Northumberland coast just north of Newcastle, my last cycling adventures where the summer holidays when I was a lad and everyday was sunny, but thanks to the cyclescheme I bought a Cube Acid in Jan and have been totally hooked ever since.

So if you see someone on a green and grey Cube Acid (but not the compulsory bright green jacket, really !!!) say hi.

Heyup Gents and Genties.

Im Danny although Flake is a nickname by all my close pals as my time management is pretty poor (God help me this year at Uni).

I've been cycling mountain bikes for years, and vandalising park benches and walls on my BMX in my teens, although i'm looking to get into Touring biking (as i've just sold my motorbike  ).

So look out for me in the Wanted section!

Take it easy all

Well hello there one and all!
I am a relatively new cyclist living within the confines of the Manchester student bubble (oxford road to those who know the city)

So cycling is a means to escape it all, and to discover aspects that I would not have otherwise been made aware of.
And its good exercise, see!
I do have an ulterior motive for joining up to Cycle Chat, which is probably not something I ought to mention in my first post. But dammit, I am not patient.
A good friend of mine has recently come back from a work placement in Australia and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her posing with this beauty. Unfortunately my knowledge of bicycle brands and typical styles associated with said brands is very limited, and as the logo is too blurry to be read I cannot search for it myself. I would be so grateful if someone would tell me what type of bike it is, or any ideas that come to mind.
I do intend to integrate myself within the community of cycle chat, I wouldn't just use you all !
Thanks in advance x
