Hello Shaun and everyone,

My name is Tom and I live near Newbury, Berks. with my wife.

I am retired and have embarked upon a project to ride a JOGLE starting on August 29th.

I am a returning cyclist with a layoff of some 40-odd years.

I have been getting some hints and tips from the CTC Forum, and look forward to getting a different perspective on CycleChat.

Tom

Hi everybody,

I'm Jamie - I live and work in London, commuting to work (with more and more people every day it seems) on a Specialized Secteur. I also have the pleasure of cycling in Provence now and again on a Giant Defy 3 ... questions to come about these very shortly

Hi All,I'm Chris from Swansea and am just returning to cycling after a long break due to work.I used to work as a cycle mechanic and wheel builder a long time ago.In fact I remember when index gears first arrived, cantilever brakes had just gone mainstream and the internet didn't exist(how did we manage?)
Any way,I've just bought myself and the kids new bikes and I'm amazed at how much bikes and equipment has changed,Carbon rims? When I was younger carbon was what came out of the coal fire.Disc brakes weren't even available on many cars let alone bikes.
Anyway I'm off for a read of the forums, please be gentle with my daft questions as this is all very different to my day,if you want info on the old fashioned stuff I'll try and help.

Cheers
Chris

Hi cyclechatters I'm Max 22 living in west london just realised checking through emails I'm registered here from a cpl of years age wtf!! so thought I would say hello to you all , I started getting back into riding for pleasure about 5 years back now starting out with the usual rubbish a steel emmelle I got for free that decided to just thow the chain when it liked since then I've moved onto a better mountain bike then hybrids and last couple of years roadbikes and have found myself gaining a mass of knowledge fixing bikes and not being put off by people saying ''that can't be fixed by a new one you tight sod'' anyway it's a brilliant stress buster riding and plan on racing in the future and hope to ride for years to come .

Thank you Iona, glad to read that - bought a bike today having not ridden for a similar number of years, been for first ride round local roads, aiming for addiction by the end of the week!

hello chyclecats,
I move around the west mids - mainly commuting, some towpaths and the occasional forest (yes there are those in this region)
I'm really keen to use bike for exploring and adventure in uk and abroad.
So no planning of course - I have booked my flight to Santander in two weeks and hope to hire a suitable ride somehwere out there for 4-5 days towards the mountains - like Torrelavega or Cabezon de la sal
If any of you have been there and can give some advice on hiring rides in Spain I would be grateful.
Also haven't booked any accommodation , but will buy maps asap. possibly even in Spain once I'm there.

Cheers and have a fantastic summer away from the hooligans !!

Hi. Andrew from Alresford, Hants

Just rebuilt a Dawes Imperial 531 from a variety of sources: eBay, Online Shops, local bike shops, my box of bits and parts off my other bikes. When the new front derailleur (ordered today) comes, it should be fully functional!

My cycling is generally fitness runs around northern Hampshire, commuting runs into Winchester and Boris biking in London. The rebuild is to go touring on. I know its not a touring frame but it only cost £78 on eBay and the Dawes Galaxy generally go for a lot more but I have my eyes open.

Had a good ride on Sunday: Wickham, Gosport, Southsea, Haying Island, Havant, Waterlooville, Portsdown Hill (went down the wrong road) and Wickham. 38 miles at 12 mph. A leisure ride through old hunting ground. ;)

I have a couple of old mountain bikes and go up the locals hills as well.

Why can't I comment on other people's posts?

See you around.

Hi all,

My name is Michael, I'm from Ashford in Kent, 29. After years of boring people with "I'm going to get a proper bike this year..." I finally did it. only a starter bike, Fuji Team 3.0, but am loving it!! been on a few medium ones, up to 25m but have now got a mind block on stepping up to 50.

Anyway, look forward to advice, hints and tips and maybe a few rides with any locals. I'm also planning on doing a few Help 4 Heroes charity rides next year so any advice on these is welcomed.

Thanks

Don't reckon i'll be getting any invites for rides straight way, seeing as how i'm across the pond. Born and raised in the good ole break-away sect of England called America... LOL. I do hope to be seeing some of you soon as i continue on my impromptu cycling tour around the world. Started in Champaign, IL, riding for charity http://facebook.com/the.real.fathers headed out to Washington, D. C. and now set to return to Champaign (on the way to San Francisco, CA and then ... the world).

Thanks, for the welcome and i'm looking forward to getting settled in.
