Hi, Just signed up for the forum as I did something really silly last week...

I agreed to do a charity bike ride last week - Not that bad?

A few points
  • I don't own a bike
  • It's 130 miles (each way)
  • It's over two days (Dublin - Galway)
I've committed myself now, I'm resonably fit 6'0 - 14st - It's not till August (Thankfully)

This week I've been on Exercise bike in the gym 16km - 35mins (level 7-8 intermitent)....That's where I'm at

Any hints, tips, training, nutrition advise will be very appreciative...

Hi there,

Just signed up to the forum to get some good advice as I have come back to cycling after a long absecne - cos I's fat and cos I's skint and both things need to change.
Used to have a Carlton Corsa with 10 or 12 gears and a permanently bent back wheel. I used to be able to beat an MG Midget away from a set of traffic lights, but that was a long time ago.
I like cycle paths and that there seem to be a lot more of them than there used to be.
Would like to do a tour, but not til i'm fit!
I think that a few more people like me may well return to cycling in the near future!

Regards Gordon

hello.
first forum, couldn't hold my tongue on tha contador case anymore so decided to join, thanks for having me.
started cycling as part of my triathlon commitments but found after a couple of years that the bike was becoming more and more my favourite discipline.
love hills, the steeper, the better.
hope to start racing this year, and funnily enough got some good practise this morning as my chain slipped on a hill and my mate left me for dead [i'd of done exactly the same thing to him too].

Hi everyone!

I'm new, from South East London, and got two bikes - a hybrid, and a vintage Claud Butler mixte (well, 70's - 80's) which I haven't really ridden cos I can't reach the brakes on the drops! But I love cycling and want to do more touring. Hope I've got the hang of this - I'm not too sure it's going to work!

Hello Strummingbunny here AKA Adrian. Last April I started cycling again after a break of at least five years. Decided to take up cycling to try and lose weight as I was 19 stone 7 pounds back then. Bought a Boardman MTB Pro from a well known retailer and aimed to cycle at least five times a week and a distance of at least 6 miles each time. By September 11th 2010 I had lost nearly 4.5 stone!! I then made the fatal error of not cycling until today...

I was looking at my expanding waistline, my pile of unread Cycling Active magazines and decided that enough is enough. Today I got all the old gear out got on my trusty Boardman and went for a 6 mile ride... still felt ok. I have put on 1.5 stone since not cycling for nearly five months. This time I will stick with it and hope to lose 3 more stone this year.

I am looking to buy a flat bar racer or hybrid as I have a Bianchi road bike but don't particularly like the drops. Was looking to get either a Trek 7.9 FX or a Specialised Sirrus Pro, but cannot decide!!

Anyway I hope that joining this site will inspire me to get back to my old habits of the summer months last year and avoid semi retirement once the colder weather comes!!

I will search the posts on here to see whether there is any advice on Hybrids/flat bar racers.....

Hello to all

Adrian

Hello All,

I pity the fools who ride their bikes on the pavement, through red lights, the wrong way down one way streets, and through crowded pedestrain crossings. As a part-time cyclist I'd like to encourage my fellow riders to obey the rules of the road and cut down on the hate all cyclists suffer for the misbehaving of an incosiderate few.

Hello All,
Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a regular London cycle commuter travelling from Deptford Bridge to Piccadilly every day. I get involved with several 100 milers through the year, usually set up by Action Medical Research. I'm a big fan of cycling, I do mostly road miles but have a mountain bike at my mothers house near Delemere Forest.

Current bikes:
Trek 1.9
Scott Comp Racing

I saw the article on BBC this morning which brought my attention to these forums and I thought I'd get involved. I am not a camera user, I'm quite laid back when it comes to near misses as they seem to happen all too often these days.
See you on the forums,
Tawny

Quite a few London commuters here, you will find lots to talk about - and not always about cycling.

Hello all,

Been lurking for a month or so, and thought it was time to sign up. Based in Berkshire/Surrey and got myself a bike for commuting to and from work. It's been many moons since I was last on a bike (about 15 years or more!) so nice to find a site for moral support for my daily treks!

:hello: Probably not to far from me in Windsor, then, especially as many of my rides head south and east towards Egham, Virginia Water and Windlesham. :becool:

Hello!

I'm Codboy from the High Peak. You can find me on the map just to the east of Manchester.

I live in the countryside, so MTBing is pretty much a way of life.

Cheers

Howdy folks,

I've been commuting part of my way to work by bike for the past 3-4 years. Currently working in London just off Victoria Street and cycle to/from Limehouse Station where I catch the train out to where I live in Essex. I've had several near misses in London involving everything from taxis and buses to lorries, pedestrians and far too many with motorcycles. Only been knocked off my bike twice, both times by pedestrians stepping out without looking where they were going.

Currently riding a Specialized Sirrus which is used as my everything bike, commuting, weekend rides and the occasional charity event.
