Hi,

I am new to this forum and cycling. On 4th January I decided to sell my car so we have one family car. I now cycle to work every day with my daughter in a child seat. It's 4 1/2 miles each way so I do 9 miles a day.

I have borrowed a friends bike to 'try it out' before I splash out, I must say it's addictive!

I am now waiting for my new bike to commute which should be ready in about a week.

I have ordered a specialized Ariel 2011 with disk brakes and the co-pilot child seat.

Here's to a healthy future! To be honest I was sick of being stuck in traffic every day

Welcome! Glad you've joined the light side!

Hi all - I'm John, just joined up. I live near Corwen in rural N. Wales, great cycling country - once I get my road bike to the end of the horribly muddy, pitted 2 1/2 mile lane from my house to a half decent proper road - usually, at least in winter, in the back of my car! Alternatively, I have to push / carry it 1/3 of a mile across fields, a narrow footbridge and a muddy footpath to reach tarmac! But it's worth it.

I've always had a bike, but I've only become a bit obsessive about (road) cycling in the last few years. I'm no spring chicken - I'm 61, but pretty fit and either run (3 - 7 miles ... lots of hills) or cycle (25 - 60 + miles ... ditto about hills) most days. I'm also a keen hill walker and climber - again, plenty of opportunity for this where I live. Have also in recent years hiked the Tour of Mt Blanc and the 'Everest Circuit' (Gokyo Ri, Cho La and Kala Patthar above Everest Base Camp). Hoping to do the Lhasa - Kathmandu cycle ride, or something fairly hardcore in the Himalayas in the not too distant future...

My favourite ride hereabouts is Bwlch-y-Groes (the highest tarmac road pass in Wales) and Lake Vrnrwy circuit from Bala. It's a most gorgeous route, but actually there are plenty of gorgeous routes around. I'm now 'in training' as I've got a place in the Dragon Ride in S. Wales in June, for the 200 km route. ... So, fortunate that the weather's now turned milder and I can get out there. Speaking of which ...

John

Hi guys, I'm Matt, new to the forum, from Northwich in sunny Cheshire, started cycling 4 years ago when my mrs got a bike to go to work on, and thought I'd join her and soon got bitten by the bug! She's gone now but the bike stayed!
Usually ride around Delamere and marbury park (And get chased by dogs every night!)
first bike was a GT Avalance, then a Saracen mantra 3, now an Orange crush with only the frame remaining original!
I also love road riding, because of the speed and also, no dogs! Did the Macclesfield bikeathon last year, and hope it's on again this year!

Happy trails!

Hullo. I am a new member of this board and look forward to getting to know other members. Being retired, I use my Brompton for cycle-camping tours. It makes life easier for trains, coaches and buses!

Hello Everyone from Gadji in North Northumberland. Been away from cycling for a long time and things have changed dramatically. I don't find the sloping top tube pleasing, so that gives my age away! However got a second hand chinese hack to play on and feel like I've just discovered the joys/pains of cycling all over again. After looking at last weeks cycling magazine I could have cried when I saw the feature on Holdsworth Professional! I sold mine for coppers- same with the next bike- an Aendi. Looking forward to catching up and getting fitter.
