Hello - carlton frame number

Hi, I am new to cyclechat although I've been bike mad for 40 years!

I have a few bikes, one is a very old Carlton. It has frame number NG5240985 It looks like it was made in Nottingham, in MAY it could be the 985 th frame. but what does the 5240 mean? The first number is said to mean the year (5) but is it 1975 or 1985? I think that post 1981 the carlton frames are said to have a W frame number not NG. Does anyone have further info please? It is a nice light bike with a racing style not touring. I need to know the value too if possible. THANKS

Hi all,
Unfortunately I had to stop riding recently after almost 50 years of touring, racing, hacking & TT's due to illness but still mad keen on the the sport in all it's aspects.

Hi,
new to the forum, if not exactly new to cycling. I'm 57 now, started with a rod-braked Hercules at the age of ~ 10, worked up & down ever since. Now running a Cannondale prophet/XTR with Avid hydraulics (Love it!) for XC/ accompaning the missus, and a Monoc Ally/Carbon Dura-ace beauty for road use (Doesn't get that much use now, as I've dragged my other half along on most rides (Giant MTB susser).
Just been to Bath & back, 510 miles, average 60/day, max 82 - highly recommended.
Off to fit a kitchen, now, earning Brownies.....

hello everyone, I am just about to buy my first every bike and realize a lifelong dream of becoming a cyclist, even if age is not on my side.
Will probably be asking lots of daft questions over the coming weeks, please humour me........

Hello and Welcome to the CC forums Raj!

Looks like you'll fit in well here!!!

Why don't you post a brief introduction to yourself on the "Cafe" section describing your cycling style(do you commute/race/Mountain bike ride etc) what type of bike do you own/want to own etc. More people will see your post there. Good luck!

Shaun "the site owner/operator" was supposed to be moving these posts there anyway - but he is quite busy. - xx(
