Welcome babeloo.

Look forward to hearing how you get on with Ditchling, and good luck with the LEJoG. Hope to see you on the road some time.

I came at it from the Brighton side (the hill out of Brighton itself is not the easiest I've cycled up!) and as I descended down the other side of the Beacon I realised there was no comparison between the two sides. So I turned round and rode up the harder side and my god it was tough! I don't mind admitting I needed a couple of breathers on the way up. Didn't get off and push at any stage though so I was proud of that!

Magnificent scenery and a lot of camaraderie from other cyclists on the road. A great day's cycling.

Whatever fits your butt, back and wallet.

+1, I have to agree there's such a wide range available - from hundreds of £'s to thousands of £'s. ;)

Maybe you could post something in the "CC Cafe" or "Beginners" and ask the same question there. Give a few more details though - how far your planning to tour, how much luggage you'll be carrying, if you need panniers(bags)/racks and a rough idea of your budget. There are bikes available to suit all price ranges and needs.

Good luck and all the best with the touring by the way.

Hi Shaun, thanks for the help with registration, I'm now fully signed up. Been a keen road cyclist for many years, for the last 10 years with the Awali Wheelers in Bahrain, Middle East. Will be retiring soon so hoping to carry on cycling in the UK, maybe with Audax. Cycling in Bahrain? Yes, it's hot (45 deg C in summer) and care needed not to fall victim to some of the crazy driving over there but I still manage about 150km a week on average. Cheers,
