Long term loafer
Hello there. A bit of a tale of woe this but here goes. Fell off my bike on Xmas day and fractured my skull when about 13 and never really went back to cycling. Took to rugby instead, but now my back has had enough of pushing around 20 stone men and I am back to cycling. About 2 months ago I started commuting to work (6 miles round trip) every day and up to about 20 miles at the weekends. Really loving it. Keen to do and learn more and stumbled upon you lot.

Just thought ill say howdy ...... joined this beehive of fun today, seems like my kinda people on here ( scarey I hear you cry !! ) I got fed up of travelling a round 12 miles on the bus every work day, sick to death of hearing drum n bass & hardcore rap blaring out of schoolkids phones (getting old ..I know I know ) heard of a saracen tour road bike going cheap from one of my mates, so I thought ... yea why not ? best thing ive done this year !!!!!

Hello to you all noo folk!

Just have a mosey around at the different threads/sections and see what interests you.

Most of us are very friendly and accommodating, a few even know what they're talking about!

But we all have an interest in bikes and cycling in one form or another.

Don't be afraid to ask/answer anything; you'll soon feel at home here!

If you want some new cycling mates, depending on your location, there's is often a regional get-together to see who can stuff the most cake into themselves ride the most in one day, or, at least, talk about it!

Enjoy the forum and have fun with your bike.

Hello everyone,

I live in southeast Kent by the sea. Sold my car a while ago, I got really fed up of sitting in traffic, paying out constantly for petrol, repairs etc and when I finally started getting angry at other drivers (totally out of character) I decided it was time to lose the car habit, get back in control and hopefully lose some weight !

So I had a look around for a bike and eventually decided to recycle by buying an 80's Ridgeback mountain bike from a charity shop for £24. I cleaned it up, replaced the chain and added some mudguards and can happily report that it goes really well, although when the knoblies wear out I will invest in some slicker tyres.

Glad to have found CC as there seems to be plenty going on.

(PS Sally James...........lovely.......)

Hello All, I'm new to the site :-) Just moved to Brighton and just bought a Raleigh Volant :-) I started cycling in the southwest where my local spot was holden woods. I come from a freeride and x-c background (Specialized enduro Pro '06 and Cube Ltd Race (a sturdy steed that recently took me along the wessex way from Weston-S-M to Eastbounre)).

Looking for cycling buddies in Brighton to go riding on the downs with. Or along the coast with my new Volant. It's an all original steed and i'm toying with the idea of converting it to a fixie? But i'm a bit worried that my free-wheeling habits will be hard to break! :-S any advise? Should i take the plunge?

Thanks,

look forward to chatting with some fellow pedalheads

P.S Sally James eh?! Hehe. Showing your age there fellas!

Waiting for my bike

Hi I'm from Stirling. Just bought my first bike (it's not even ready yet) for rehab after an accident and to get fit. It's the first one I've chosen for myself - well the very helpful guys in my LBS really chose it with me - it's a Specialized Ariel Sport 2010. I'll no doubt be back on here for hints and tips once I get started - and to pass on any newbie ones as they occur to me. Still at the stage of not knowing what I don't know but it'll be fun finding out. Just wish it was April and not November! Looking forward to getting to know you but thanks for the advice I've taken already.
