Hello, I'm Ben I commute to work, ride with Islington Cycle Club and I've even been known to race a couple of times at Hillingdon Track. I'm changing careers and countries in the new year and hoping to make cycle touring my new career so I'm hoping to make some new online friends who might be able to make some suggestions and point me in the right direction.
I've been on a couple of tours myself. I once cycled from Jerez to Bilbao in 16 days which was amazing, Caen to San Sebastian and more of a drinking tour from Biarritz to San Sebastian!! By far the best way to see a country.

Hello I'm Rachel. I own a touring mountain bike and a hard tail. I do all my own maintenance and build wheels.
I've been lurking on this site for a while now.
I'm into value for money biking and can often be found wearing Lidl or Aldi kit.

Hello! Very new on this forum and very new on a bike... literally! I was recently given an old hybrid bike which (very) slowly but (hopefully) surely I'm getting fixed. Got to change (with a lot of help!) my first chain ^_^

I look forward to learning as much as I can about bike maintenance and getting my confidence on the saddle back!

Hi everyone, names Matt, own a Whyte 801 Hardtail which i got on the cycle to work scheme. Complete noob to MTB, did my first run at Cannock Chase this weekend and didn't come off on the red route. Really caught the bug now and looking at ways to upgrade my bike and understand whats what basically. Hope to learn lots and meet some other keen Trail riders.

Cheers Matt!

Hi from the Gresley Dawdler , just getting back into cycling after 18 years doing other things . Been running for the last 3 years but just need a bit of variety in my keep fit routine ,So dug out me old Claud Butler Dalesman and hit the road in more ways than one , I've certainly lost the knack of flipping the old pedals & clips . so if anybody is out & about in South Derbyshire and passes a gasping cyclist trying to get up a hill the please say Hi

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

Hello all,

I’ve been using this forum for advice for a while, so now decided to join. I’ll just give a little background info, sorry if it goes on a bit

Bought my first bike for myself as a teenager in the ‘70s with money from a part-time job, a Falcon 5 speed, this was replaced when I could afford it with another Falcon, a 10 speed this time (black frame with gold detailing) For my 21st birthday I was given some money to go towards a hand built bike to my spec, made locally by Pennine Cycles, my absolute pride and joy, (I carried a picture of it in my wallet when I went away to uni… Sad I know) .

Anyway, time rolls on and after a couple of minor road accidents the Pennine Italia gave up the ghost and so did I.

Now 30 years on I’m giving it another go. I bought a fairly cheap road bike and headed out. Boy, my confidence has all but gone, along with my legs ! My wife seemed pretty keen on keeping me company but she has no cycling experience whatsoever and point blankly refuses to ride on busy roads. We are both keen hill walkers and we’ve obviously seen MTB’s out in the hills, and that’s where we both decided we should be. We’ll mainly be doing bikepacking type of thing around the Yorkshire Dales and South Pennines.
We now are in possession of two bikes, Mine is kitted out with rack and panniers, the wife has still to decide how she will carry her kit.

Umm, kinda messed that up because I commented on something already  so shame on me! Been riding 22 miles a day, 5 days a week since July as I got miffed having spent £4k on my car over the space of a year. Sold the car, bought a Defy, enjoying my lot & haven't looked back. Wouldn't swap the bike for a car for anything - Looooooooooove it! ^_^

Hello,

I was just referred to this forum by my friend, as I was looking for some parts.
I drive to uni everyday 9 km and weekend off road.

My partner is a 17 inch MTB frame converted to road-focus, 7.15 kg, alu frame, carbon fork and cheap pair of wheels.
