Hi There , Graham from Sheppey here, was on here ages ago under Barracuda Gray but after the year I have had needed a fresh start . I got myself a cheap Barracuda bike Year half ago and said that I would buy a half decent bike when id lost a certain amount of weight as I was a big boy . Well started off really well losing a stone and 8lb in no time but then disaster struck . Knee injuries struck up again and I found it hard to cycle and put the weight back on . I got lazy again (not good) ......... I now have gone and purchased a Boardman to try and get back out and lose the weight again
I have recently done 2, 20 mile rides so hoping to up it as im knee pain free.
I have entered the ballet for the London ride next year and am raring to go and lose this weight and enjoy cycling again.
I thought id come back on here as you kind comments helped so much last time .....
Heres hoping for a longer stay ........
Graham

Hi all

My name is Keith and I live in a little village just outside Nottingham. I'm relatively new to cycling and predominately go on pleasure rides with a friend. Bought a Merida Speeder T2-D Hybrid earlier this year and am now looking into getting my first road bike.
Caught the bug big time and try and get out whenever I can. Have just ventured into the world of clip less too and so far no delboy type falls!
Hi There Keith,
I have recently tried the clipless pedals , I am new to this as well and I must say I have had the most embarrassing fall . I stopped at traffic lights at a very busy junction forgot about the clipless pedals . It seemed to happen in slow motion I just started to fall to my right ...... In the sheer panic of trying to get my foot out I even managed to pull the muscle in my leg of which put me out for a couple of weeks . Mind you not to sure what hurt more , my pride or my leg lol. Still at least it was a quite junction (NOT) main junction into my town ..........Gutted lol

Hi all, just joined to learn some more about cycle commuting as my background is all mountain biking as a kid! Soon to be moving to London from Bristol and plan to use my Langster as a commuter for about 5 miles each way dodging the buses and Lamborghinis of London. I've had it about 4 years already but mainly used it for short hops around the Army bases and airfields where I've served. Thinking the main differences will be security, traffic and sourcing some decent panniers so any tips gratefully received! Any ideas where I should post bike trailer suggestions too? Thanks in advance!

Hi :hello:

About me -
Mid 40`s
Living in the heart of the National Forest, less than 5 minutes ride to Conkers and 15 minutes ride to Hicks Lodge.
Been with the wife for 24 years
Father of 2 teenage know-it-alls kids
First bike was a Raleigh Budgie
Latest bike(s)... Well, about 2 months ago I decided to get a bike for the 3 mile commute to work and bought a Carrera Subway. The bike is good for the price and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to kit the family out with bikes for get out of the house, fun, leisure and fitness reasons. A couple of weeks later I got the Carrera Vengeance, aimed at my lad and again quite cheap. I then applied for the wheels2Work scheme, chose the Boardman MX Race (picking it up on Saturday) but while the application was going through, a lad at work offered to sell (in 2 monthly payments) me his one week old Carrera Fury with accessories worth around £20 odd for a ton less than he paid for it.... snapped his hand off and glad I did, its a cracking bike.

I love the fact that the kids moaned at me for wasting MY money on these bikes but then say to me "fancy going for a bike ride, Dad"

The mrs will have the Subway, daughter gets the Vengeance, lad gets the Fury and I`ll have the Boardman.

Well, thats me :hello:

I nearly feel your pain Gray, I was riding out for the first time the other week in clipless and was coming to a stop and nearly forgot to 'unclip'. Anyhoo my mate was straight on the "told you they were dangerous" bandwagon
I've just brought a Felt road bike and am tinkering with the thought of going SPD-SL instead of SPD but that will mean new pedals and shoes ;) I suppose it's as good excuse as any to go shopping again tho

Just signed up as I fancied somewhere friendly to talk about cycling. I've gone through four bikes in four years having started cycling only when Boris introduced his bikes. Since when I've had a Dahon folder (not being cared for during a winter rendered it unfixable when I eventually took it for a service), a Pinnacle hybrid (stolen), another Pinnacle hybrid (sitting in the garage) and a now a Tern Joe folder which gets fairly regular punishment. I've been in Hastings for about six months and ride to work in London (which sounds impressive until I mention the train part) a couple of times a week. Tentatively getting out more to see what Sussex has to offer a cyclist but so far have restricted myself to riding along the seafront to Bexhill and back ...

Hello all, lurked for a few days but now jumping right in.

So far I've found the forum to be hugely informative, and unlike some others, generally very friendly and, shall we say, less precious! Boy, the cycling world can be defensive but this place seems like an oasis of calm!

Anyhow, riding a hybrid right now because I gave up the dream of a racer when my wife said we should go out together and she had ideas of canal paths etc. A few months later I am putting in the miles and hers is largely unused. Fortunately my new job has a C2W scheme and I shall be getting a racer as soon as the next window opens. And I cannot wait, but the research has taken over my life a little...

Thanks for the great content and I hope I may be able to contribute in some small way.

All the best

Tom

Hi all I'm a complete noob to the cycling scene, I have been hiking and climbing for a few years and fancied the change. Just bought a Trek one series road bike a week ago. My goal is to be at an acceptable level to join my local club by Feb 2015.

Hi, my name is Catherine, 35 in a couple of weeks, and live in Norfolk. I have three children, 8,5,3 and a cycle mad husband. That madness has rubbed off on me, and now I am almost as obsessed as him. I am currently riding a mountain bike with child seat in situ, 3 times a week, averaging about 13 miles a time. (In seven weeks, I have ridden 210 miles). Am loving the buzz it gives me, the freedom (from kids, lol) I have a goal to ride to work - 14 miles each way, by mid September, and to do the local fundraising 99km ride next August. I have found a slight competitive streak, but am struggling to see me riding more than about 20 miles a time, even though I want to. I work as a nurse and have a father with Alzheimer's. I need motivation to go further, husband and I have to ride separately in order to watch the kids, and I end up riding in the evening, him in the morning.
I am enjoying the me time, get cross when overtaken by someone on a road bike, try to keep up when a bike club passes me (no chance!!) and attempting to save for a road bike- but bills keep getting in the way. So hi.

Hello Shaun,

I'm Belgian and live in London. I love to ride in London, anywhere that's below 50 ride is a no-brainer for me as I hate the tube.

Thanks for the forum!

Hello, I'm new here.
I can't really tell you much about myself................the last thing I remember was being abducted by aliens last night and having my brains sucked out.
I'm not even sure if I'm interested in cycling, but I seem to have a garage full of bikes. Or they might be something else. Are you guys my parents?

Hi all, very new, not a brilliant rider been riding to work and back a few times, depending on the route it's 9 or 13 miles. The car drive is crap A40 Oxford and you then you get a parking fine if you park in the car parks! Hope to go out on the weekends to get some serious miles clocked up....Oh and to lose about 3 stone
