Hey everyone, just joined the forum.

I'm 24 from northern Ireland and I'm about to buy my first road bike. I've been looking at a Wilier Montegrappa Soro for £650. I'm not sure if it is a good bike for the price. Anyone got any ideas?
Very "new" to this cycling thing myself, I'm in the process of buying my first cycle since the 3rd quarter of the last century, but over the last few weeks I've seen a couple of reviews in the cycling press concerning Willier and both said they were very good. As it's an Italian make (although almost certainly made in Taiwan) they tend to be a little pricier than some of the other marques so £650 could well be a very good price.....possibly.

Hello Pie Ea.....er, well probably best not to go down that route. Only been a member myself for a short while but they seem a pretty friendly bunch. So far nobody's shot me down in flames or ridiculed me. Mind you, I'll have been married for 25 years next year so I'm pretty used to humiliation and ridicule. As you may have already noticed there are quite a few on here from the G.M. area and the North West in general so quite a few useful bits of information have already come my way.

Now then, just got to fill out my application form for the GBR cycling team for Rio:

Dear Bradley.....er maybe not.

Dear Sir Chris.....hmm, no that's not going to do it.

Aha!! Got it:

Dear Victoria,

I wonder if you could have a word in the right quarters about me joining the GBR Olympic cycling squad for Rio. I must admit to being a little rusty but I've just bought a new bike and have been watching the cycling on tele so I think I've got it nailed. I can do some training on Tuesdays, or every other Thursday if necessary so you can rely on me to see off "Johnny Foreigner" and bring back the gongs for Britain.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Regards,

Fudgepanda.

P.S. thought you looked great in those shorts.

There we go, that ought to do it. I'll just bang that off and then it's down to the late night Tandoori followed by a few pints of Mild and then I'll get into the serious training.

Hey there,

I'm Liam from Penrith, Cumbria.

I'm saving for my first road bike...I think I've whittled it down to a Specialized Allez with the carbon forks and Shimano 2300 chain and deraileurs etc...All this for about £575.

Any experienced people on here think this is a good deal?
I'm just looking for some advice thanks.

Hi Everyone,

Matthew from Glasgow.

Just getting my first Road bike, can't wait to attack some hills. Doing the Pedal for Scotland Sportive on 9th, probably a bit over eager I know, not much time to train for it but I'm pretty fit so I'm confident enough I'll be alright.

Speak soon.

Matthew

Hello!

I'm Andy, from sunny Coventry (well, it was today!!) I work about 6 miles from home and recently bought a bike with the intention of commuting- not taken the plunge as yet! Long time out of the saddle, I used to go everywhere on my bike as a kid/teenager but then I learned to drive and... I guess it's a oft-told story

Looking forward to some interaction with fellow cycling newbies and encouraging words from seasoned hands (or should that be bums???)
