Hi Im Giffy from sunny pembrokeshire, i need some help, ive got a Giant defy 2 and ive fitted a new shimano bottom bracket and a triple truvativ 52/42/30 chainring the proble now is that my front derailler mech wont move out due to hitting the middle ring,i thought bugger it i can just move it up a bit but there isn't any more adjustment left, what would be the best mech to go for that will fit ? also will i now need to change my chain as the chain jumps to the middle ring when in first gear on the outer ring! hope this makes sense. thank you

Hi just signing to see what other cyclists do.
I started cycling after I stopped being able to run (short break between the two - about 10years) but I got into it after it after leaving a wondrfully flat part of germany to start in the not so flat wiltshire, but I needed a way to get to the train station, now I cycle to work when its not rain, need the car for work or l am late getting up.
(so once a year like)
got a touring bike and a mountain bike, do lots of off road trails riding, recently followd the roman road from home to badbury rings - on my touring bike! - but the return journey was all on road so it worked out ok.

dream of cycling round britain. one day , when its not raining and I don,t need to go to work

Hi giffy. I,m just in the process of pimping my bike by changing from a 48chainring to a 54 and am having orible problems with getting the derailer to work.
bike shop suggests getting a shorter axle to bring the chainring in closer to the rframe so the derailer can cope,
definately needa longer chain.

will let you know if I resolve the problem.
am aiming for the speed of light.

Hello...

I'm new to this cycling business, but I decided that having two cars on the drive was completely unnecessary. I signed up to the "bike to work" scheme and picked my bike on on Saturday just gone. I have a number of hills on my way to and from work (I live in Cheshire but close enough to the Peak District to be hilly) so I just need to master these and then I will start cycling to work. Hopefully I'll be able to sell my car in a couple of months... so not only will I be fitter but I'll be richer too!

Hi all...
I am a returning cyclist having had a few years off (eight) due to illness, now thankfully in remission and ready for getting back to full fitness. Firstly though I need to drop about 20 pounds!
Hopefully it will not take long and can get back to the real freedom of the road and out from behind the wheel of the necessary evil that spoils our cycling.
I live North of Doncaster,so the long flat runs to York and North Lincolnshire are my usual runs and I cannot wait to get back to the long days in the saddle:smile:
All the best to all.

Yep I made a thread first ^^ But hello to Everyone! Im Phill and live in Brighton, as my post says I've got a bike! And as I'm in Brighton, Ditchling Beacon is calling. Was running it 3/4 times a week before injury so I'm interested to see how it is on the tarmac with a bike. Watch my posts for photos and updates on the bike I recently got =)

Evening all! Just joined and what a nice site. I am a complete bicyclophile (I love bicycles ......but don't make love to them!)
I strolled across this site while looking for reviews for the BTwin Triban and have now added one to my fold of bicycles.
When I was young (back in the 80's) I craved a bicycle that bore the legend "Reynolds 531" ....but when I rediscovered cycling a few years ago and could afford a half decent bicycle I found that 531 had been superceded by Reynolds 631 so I got one of those....Then I got lucky with a classic virtually unused 80's Falcon Westminster made from 531....for £70 of eBay and I must confess that I enjoy riding that as much as I do my more expensive Dalesman. I also have a home made mountain bike (unknown frame) and various components - which I frequently use to ascend the mountains of Norfolk....(well I go to Thetford a couple of times a month!)
I also love tinkering with bicycles and carry out repairs for friends, friends of friends, and friends of friends friends. I would hate to put any good local bicycle shops out of business.....but there isn't a good local bicycle shop where I live! (King's Lynn area)
Over the last year or so I have started to get out on my cycles more and more and have lost 3 stone in the process!
I try and get out on one of my bicycles about 3 times a week - doing a not too rapid 20 miles or so after work - and at weekends I try and do a 50 - 60 mile circular route. All going well, (and depending on the weather) I plan to attempt 100 miles this weekend...... Last achieved by me on my older brother's Raleigh Europa in 1985! Wish me luck! Poves
