Ahem...

Hello every one. Despite being the wrong side of 40 and having ridden bikes for about 38 years, I'd not happened across this site till earlier tonight - how's that for useless. What to say - 14 bikes in the stable and looking to add another next weekend (don't tell the missus, she just won't see the need for a SS no suspension MTB), including a couple of 'bents. Live Surrey Hills, and am easing back into distance having just gone from 6 months of motorcycle commuting back to a 46m cycle commute 3 days a week. Now where did I leave that fitness I'm sure I had?

It's just an old nickname from school, mostly in reference to the way I move when I participate in physical activity. Ahem *blush* lol.

Hi, im Andy. I am definately new to this, havent ridden for over 10 - 12 years or so.
I really want to get into cycling in a big way. Ordering my first bike next week after spending days on forums, talking to my local independant etc... Cannot wait. I do feel that I am spending too much on a first bike ( 800 ) but what the hell, from what ive learned, 800 isnt really that big an outlay and is probably about average for a beginner. Just need to educate myself on the technical points of cycling then im off....

Hi Emma

I would probably put the question about training and kit to the main Beginner's forum (for more exposure).

Good luck and prepare to pay - in both sweat and currency

Hello to one and all....

Hello there, i have recently bought my first road bike as have a MASSIVE urge to complete the E2E ride next year at some point..

I was contemplating with a couple of my friends buying a bike from a charity shop and completeing the ride on that, getting the cheapest bike possible, but we all thought Little bit daft and all decided on a £300 limit so i plunged for the Raleigh Airlite 100

 I feel people laughing now at this

Bike not really the main priority at the moment and possibly purchase a monster for the main trip, At present i have started cycling to work, 23 mile round trip so i good start I feel, Had really bad saddle sore 1st day i went out on the bike so fitted my old mountain bike seat, Dont know if this is the right thing to do but its Tried and Tested...

Would love to hear from people who have completed the JOGLE or the LEJOG to advise me whats the hardest way etc...

Thanks, The Cock

Sounds like you've gone from doing no cycling to a 23 mile round trip commute
That's a fair daily distance (others will disagree) and it will take a little while for your butt to get used to being in the saddle for longish rides. Trying to find comfy saddles is trial and error but I would stick with what you have and just give it time. Try doing some shorter rides at weekends etc to give additional time in the saddle without irritating it too much maybe...

Best of luck
