I read somewhere that TREK road bikes are "just wrong" cannot remember where I read it though. Some of them like the 1.5 look just dandy to me
Then again, I'm a Road bike N00b and don't know much!

Hi, I'm mum of two, looking to get back into cycling, hubby started cycling to work he never really cycled before so I want to encourage him to continue. I used to cycle everywhere in my youth.

I've been looking for advice on cycling with my children. I have a 3 year old and a 7 month old. So I'm looking at getting a trailer...but which one? There seem to be some that take two children (good idea when it's just me nipping down to the beach with them)...but would a 2 seater be sturdy enough for the 7 month old? Which ones can car seats be strapped into, bearing in mind that I can't get a helmet for a 7 month old, her head is 44cm just now...do I wait till next summer?...there's not much traffic where we live (Isle of Lewis) but winter cycling isn't going to happen here so waiting till next summer seems a long way away. I'm not thinking of taking them on busy roads, the concern isn't really other cars, but the trailer tipping over. So any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Might be worth putting this question again in the main Beginners section, but anyway...

I don't know much about individual models, and car seats and the like, but just to put your mind at rest - it is very hard indeed to tip a kiddie trailer over, even without kids in it. I've seen it happen once, on a try out track, when a kid rode at full tilt into his Mum, who was on the bike pulling the trailer. Both the kids in the trailer were strapped in, and all that happened was that they ended up on their sides, inside the trailer, a bit surprised, but fine. Most, if not all, trailers form roll cages by their very construction. But that really was a very unlikely scenario, and I've never seen one tip over in normal road use.

I'm not a baby expert, but I'm not certain you'd need a car seat for the 7 month old - is she holding her head up yet? Most trailer seats are a sling sort of thing, so they might just support her enough... You'd be best to check that though.

Hi everyone
Mooch about at weekends. Did C2C last weekend with a couple of mates, and loved it.
Old bike was faultless, but I'm finding the need to 'invest' in a new one anyway

Will be seeking advice presently.

Seems like a nice place to be...cheers

Hi all, I'm doing this properly so my first post is in here although I have been lurking for a few days and its been a great source of information so far.

My name is Bev and, as you can probably tell from my user name, I live in Liverpool.

I haven't riden a bike in about 30 years but my fella wants to do the TPT so I stupidly agreed to join him. New bike and only one spin out on it later and I have a sore backside and regret those foolish words. Still I won't be beaten so its back in the saddle tonight and every night til I'm fit enough to take it on.

Takes a while to develop a cyclist's bum, but not too far each time to start with and it will soon harden up (though I always imagine when I read that, that my bottom must be sort of calloused - luckily I just mean it gets used to it:biggrin:).

Welcome everyone:smile:
