Hi From toothless.
JUst found this forum. Seems a good go. Anyway nice to be a member.
Already I'm asking for help. Come the end of May I will be using Ryanair (may the Gods forgive me) to fly me, my bike and camping gear to Dinard, from where I will make my gentle way, via the Loire, to Montpellier where Ryanair will return me to LEEDs. I will take three weeks over the trip. Anyone out there used a CTC plastic bag in which to place my gold plated iron. An artice-SOUTH THROUGH FRANCE-on Crazyguy mentioned using the bag method of placating the airlines. Well I'll give it a go. Never had this problem when I wer' a lad.
As for me I cycled the full circle in 1958 and again in 1968. A glutton for punishment. Did the TRANS-AM in 1999. Now! that is a must. Go for it one day.
I,ve spent quite a few hours going through the CYCLECHAT forums, and one thing I've noticed a few riders in the 60/70 age seemed to be letting their age ditate speed and milage. My MOTTO, ride regular forget your age. As for me I'm 79 or 80. Wotever. I must look for my birthday thingy sometime. AHHHH who cares.
Can't wait to be sitting at a table in a sunblasted square in a tiny french village sipping a glass of red.
All the best from toothless............

Hi Toothless, :welcome:

Lovely part of the world you will be riding through. A glass of red, in a sunny French village sounds like a good plan to me. Have a good trip and keep us posted on how you get on. Pics would be good too.

Hey guys.

Im 22, live in Leicester, recently bought a Carrera Valour second hand. Its had a full service with all cables changed, feels like new! This is my first road bike and the bumps on our rubbish roads hurt like hell! Anyone else from Leicester here?

Hello
I have got been bought my little dream bike. darling hubby bought me a Pashley sonnet Bliss. Been out and about and just started a group on FB as I am trying to get a ride out night sorted. I am from just outside hull. As you can see from my picture there is a famous landmark the Humber Bridge in the background and the cycle ride to North Ferriby from Hessle is fantastic.

Hi everybody,
I'm in East Devon, a returnee to bikes after waaay too many years.

I thought (hoped?) it would be a good way to get rid of the "python that swallowed a goat" physique that has sneaked up on me as riding was my obsession until a driving license, pubs and girls distracted me.

Have had a bike for a little over a month during which time the rain has been biblical so have only just turned over 50 miles, which feels like a bit of a result! However I can't believe how poor my level of fitness is and am really struggling with getting enough oxygen in. It's also bleeding hilly here too!

Thanks for letting me in here, it's nice to find a forum that's not too focused on racing.

Cheers
-Simon

Hello,
I am brand new to cycling, and am hoping to commute to work,6 miles each way. I am also very unfit. I managed 4 miles today, but am now aching all over and my butt hurts. What is the best way to begin to improve fitness, should I go out on the bike every day or am I supposed to alternate days, take a few days break inbetween etc. All advice greatfully received.

:welcome: to be honest there's no trick to it just keep at it and maintain. The maintaining bit is the issue so don't give up yet, change your diet perhaps drink more water. Just like any activity you do, you need to continue it

My first trip out was a total of 3 1/2 miles, my wife almost called an ambulance when she saw me return! Now, after a grand total of 50 miles in a month I can manage 10 miles in less than an hour including a b*st*rd climb right on my doorstep.

It takes time but if I (fat and 47) can, then I'm sure you can do it too!

:welcome: Pegasus! Keep at it, alternate days to start with, you'll soon be flying that bike, swifter than the mythical horse. Good luck!

Maybe we can sort out a another forum ride one weekend out of Leeds. We had one a while ago:

http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/ride-out-of-leeds-sat-the-29th-oct.87524/

which went ok. But, blimey. Last October?? Was it really that long ago?
