Hello!
Brand new to this, relatively new to cycling too. Am doing the etape caledonia in a few weeks. Bricking it! Anyone have any tips for waterproof clothing to invest in? Was out on Monday in the rain. Have a decent jacket and shower proof packaway, boot covers etc but was soaking wet and freezing after 10 miles....went right through all my layers. Any suggestions on kit appreciated
Thanks

Hi everybody,
New on here . Live in Northamptonshire and work in the corner of paradise that is Milton Keynes (though it's not bad for riding)- been biking for about 5 years - mainly mountain biking. Had a bit of a break over the winter for various reasons. Just (literally about 2 hours ago) bought myself a tadpole trike to give myself a boot up the *rse to get riding again so likely to be hanging about in the "special interest" section a lot.

Keep the black stuff pointing downwards

Hi! New to forums: live in Leicester and don't cycle enough regularly....but do enjoy it, got daughter doing Lon2Bri with my "work colleagues" & I in June, need this rain to stop so I can practice!
Per my other first thread, looking to take advantage of "ride to work" scheme to treat self to decent new hybrid soon....just unable to make decision what bike!
Cheers

Hi troops!
New to the forum, and new to cycling. To be perfectly honest I've never really been a big fan of cycling, but an ankle injury stopped me running, and the pounds were starting to pile on, so my wife convinced me to get the bike out of the garage and get cycling instead. I did, and am actually quite enjoying it.

Until recently my bike (seven gear citybike) has stood pretty much unused in the garage getting rusty/dusty, but now I'm going out 4-5 times a week (mostly shorter rides up to 20 odd KM or so), and I can already see that my fitness is improving, and hopefully the weight will start going down when I start doing longer rides.

All the best.

Hi, everyone. I started biking regularly only when I retired, 2 years back when 62! I'm enjoying it and glad I started something to get me out in the fresh air and exercise. I know some will scoff at a 'folder', but I went for a Dawes Ace - a 10kg 8 speed bike - so that I could leave it in the back of my car and vary the areas I ride in, to keep up my interest. Great bike, £6-700 when new in 2010, but I picked it up on Ebay for just £120, which lets me enjoy owning and riding it even more!.
I want to ask a question of you experienced riders!! I ride mostly on cycle routes and bridleways etc, and a couple or three times I've had another cyclist come up behind me and call ''on your left". Course, instinct kicks in and I move even closer to hug the left when I think I'm in the way, when, (apparently????), they are actually meaning they want to overtake me on the inside! Which then results in a certain amount of confusion and cursing going on....(!!!) One lycra-clad chap was quite rude about it shouting that I should know I should let another bike pass on the left, or shouldnt be out etc etc. Well, sorry, but I never heard this one before, which runs counter to everything we're taught to do on the road. And I can't even see anything on the internet either.....Which is how I found myself here.
Do we ride on the left when on the road, and then jump to the right when entering a cycleway then??? Seems kind of counter-intuitive to me. Does anyone have the definitive answer about this "rule" please? And where it came from?
Cheers, Jacqui.

Hi Jacqui, and :welcome:
I don't know much about the rules, but I share your feelings. Me being an "easy rider" I get overtaken all the time, absolutely hate it when they pass me on the left. Like you, I think we drive on the left, we should overtake on the right. No doubt somebody will soon quote the relevant cycling rule, to keep us both right. All the best, enjoy your rides! :hello:
