Hi all
Steve here from Bradford west yorks.I have been cycling on and off for the last 15 years, more of a leisure cyclist with the wife and kids. However i have of late decided to ride to work and get away when i can at the weekends.
I have had to change my bike from a Dawes tekarra which i have had for quite a while to a Specialized hardrock sport.Main reason was the poor roads i travel on, and the hydraulic disc brakes are a must on the steep hills especially in the wet.
I have been commuting for the last 6 months with the only problem being ice during the cold spell,i am certainly starting to feel fitter and more healthy since i started which was one of the main reasons for doing it.
cheers for now will post later .

Hi all,

I'm Michael from Essex. I work in London and, believe it or not, riding Boris Bikes as part of my daily commute inspired me to dust off my v old (anyone remember the Raleigh Mantis?) MTB for rides at weekends/when I can. I do mainly road cycling so am looking to upgrade to a road bike (on a limited budget) thus I turned to your fair selves for guidance. Thanks to what I've read here (and elsewhere) I'm going to try out the btwin triban 3 from Decathlon so I'll report back when/if I take the plunge and buy it!

There are quite a few on here with the Triban 3 (including me ), as an entry level road bike for £300 it is good value, and I'm loving mine so far! Different Decathlon stores have had mixed reviews on here but I found the one in Edinburgh really good - have a look at Monkspeed's gallery for photos and bits of advice, or do a search on here. Enjoy!

This forum hasn't got enough newbies. It needs more newbies!

Hello! Use a MTB with road tires on my commute from Old Street out to the docklands. Mostly ride sensibly from Shoreditch to the CS3 and thence onwards to East India. I've hacked my nerdy looking Bell helmet to include flashing lights on the back and a mount for my camera (yes I have a camera, I've found drivers have given me a wide berth since I've started wearing an obvious camera on my head). I ride politely and courteously and tend to huff, puff and swear as I go up hills.

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

 Well then - this is new - finding the route to send a message was a bit fraught - perhaps it's an age thing but I think I found it at last......Hello everybody - Suttzs from sunny Manchestahh where the roads are more like abandoned cart tracks in the wilderness and a bike needs to be made of sterner stuff.....great site Shaun - found some good reading on here...Ta Ta.

Thanks for that - good to hear from people who already own the bike. My nearest Decathlon are low on stock and don't have my size frame at the mo (must be a good sign!) so hoping to get it in the next few weeks. Thanks for signposting Monkspeed's gallery very useful!
