My lunchtime "Freezer Surprise" was a fail. Raided the freezer this morning for some lunch (in the office all week). The left over Phad Thai (homemade) had been in the freezer for longer than I remember - somewhat stale, so was binned. Had to rely on a large scone with cream and jam (left overs from a meeting). Oh, and I've got an apple going spare.

where's the BEEF?

MrsPete told me that there was a nail on the kitchen floor from when I'd erected a shed, yesterday.
I pointed out that it wasn't actually a nail but a galvanised clout.

She gave me one of her looks.... I'm still feeling a bit withered!!

I get that here, too... Although usually, it's me doing the withering looks

The parental is the most unhandy / unpractical / un-DIY kind of person I know, bless her... I think we compromise and call things "a doodad" to avoid any issues with proper names LOL

I was so tired yesterday when talking to one of my neighbours that I forgot the word for the pudding that has treacled breakcrumbs on a pastry base. Doodad with double cream?

Someone has given us a small selection of fruit that you would normally eat raw. The pears are rather hard, can I peel them and gently stew them. Do they need peeling?

I moved... a LOT of firewood. Rather than move half of it all the way, I moved all of it halfway and stacked it by the garage. As the wood it bone dry, it'll be easier to set up the saw horse on the drive and cut the wood into logs there, then move to wood to where the saw horse is, and then move it BACK to the garage.

My shoulders ache, but in a good way. Who needs a gym when you need to keep the heating fed?

Anyways, time for a nice :cuppa: and a chocolate biskit.

If the stalk end of the pear has some give in it, then they should be good to eat as is. Otherwise, if they are solid enough to sell to the Ukrainian military to use as ammunition, then peel, halve or quarter depending on the size, and poach gently in a vanilla syrup (water, sugar and a splooshette of vanilla extract) until soft, and serve with whipped cream.

Other option is to poach in spiced red wine.

You could also do a "stairs" crumble, i.e. apple & pear. :hungry:
