It's been a grey, raw and rather soggy day here chez Casa Reynard.
Slept ok-ish, but my get-up-and-go has gotten up and buggered off. Might be better if the weather wasn't so damn depressing. Did some kitcheny-stuff this morning, including sorting out some kale and sprouts to cook this evening. The sprouts (the last 15p bag from the Christmas promos) will be for supper, while the kale will be diverted into some rumbledethumps later in the week. I also divided up a large pack of cold-smoked trout that I bought for Christmas and didn't eat. Half kept back, the remainder has gone in the freezer.
Had a lovely luncheon of two slices of wholemeal toast, one with the aforementioned smoked trout, and the other with a truffle-infused brie, plus some fruit and a
I really do have to recommend the trout - which is from Lidl's "Deluxe" range. If you find smoked salmon a bit too punchy, then this will probably fit the bill, as it's more delicate than salmon, and very, very nice. Going by the size of the slices, it's likely sea trout, but that doesn't detract at all.
Split a box of logs this afternoon. Have put the cherry wood I brought in the other day to season for the summer, and am currently using some large lumps of mulberry and ash that has been stacked on the fence for about five years or so. Some of the wood is showing signs of deterioration, so better to use it than lose it. Also went to Littleport to pick up the parental's prescription and to pop into Doe's for a gallon of chainsaw oil and a litre of two-stroke oil.
The rest of the afternoon was spent writing.
