I fancy installing a hot bulb diesel stationary engine on my balcony to drive a generator. It would be fun, but my neighbours probably wouldn't appreciate the noise.

it could be worthwhile just buying one - back in 2000 we were having numerous power cuts / brown outs. I invested in a small generator to run the CH, Radio, TV and some lights.
On hearing this news Scottish power renewed a stretch of pylons that were causing all these power cuts, we have not had a power cut since, never needed to use the generator in anger

would you like to buy it? as soon as your power company learns of this purchase, you may never need to use it and never have another power cut - MAGIC

Although as soon as I sell it, I wonder if our power infrastructure will collapse
its no longer for sale

Time to bank the fire for the night and head off to bed. I has a tired.

Nunnight one and all xxx :hello:

It is amazing in a way to look out the window and see complete darkness in most directions.

I still wish the electricity would come back on though! I have lit my gas lamp again. I wonder how long the gas cylinder lasts in one of these. I best get a spare this morning. It's the same as the one in my camping stove anyway.

We get local rural road speed limits reduced to 60km/hr next month, as well as 30km/hr urban speed limits later in the year, and there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the comments section of the papers. Apparently it will cause more accidents by looking at the speedometer and forcing people to overtake.

How are you going to buy a new cylinder if there is a power cut as most tills are electric?

Morning.
We have a mostly clear sky, there is a few streaky clouds on the horizon. I can see the crescent moon, earlier it looked different in not having so much of it missing.
Just before I woke up I was having a dream about cycling with my friends. It was on a cycle track near a lake. Whilst I was waiting for them to catch up I noticed an old couple holding a bike for their son. The bike was a classic steel framed hand built bike . I couldn't make out who made it but it was a large bike, I could rest my chin on it's saddle and I'm 5' 10" ! I woke up before their son turned up, I would have liked to see how tall he was.

I just compared my saddle height. The rider in my dream must have been near to 8' tall .

Good morning from Suffolk where I am pleased to say that for the first time in nearly a fortnight it's a bright and sunny start to the day. Chilly and wet underfoot after overnight rain, but sunny. Coffee had been had with a new pack of Oaties being opened to provide the biscuit accompaniment.

I need to pop out in a little while to get some milk as I've just used the last of the bottle on this morning's porridge, but once that's been done the rest of the day is mine to enjoy - hopefully in continuing sunshine.
