I did manage to get out for a couple of quick test rides this afternoon as it wasn't quite so windy by then. Seems like the road closure is creating quite a bit of traffic in the other direction as everyone that would normally drive to the neighbouring village has to go to Felixstowe first and, even well after the normal end of the school run chaos, there was a half mile queue for the traffic lights. Oh how I chuckled as I filtered past.

My anorak season has started as it's the Daytona 24 hours this weekend and it and the support races are being streamed free on IMSA TV.

Back home again and to bed with hot water bottle and gas lamp. I bought the gas lamp years ago in case of a power cut, but never had the opportunity to use it. It's probably as bright as a 60 W bulb but poorly directed. I remember the phrase "gurgled like a gas lamp" from one of Dylan Thomas' short stories, and see what he meant, as it's quite noisy.

I disagree with anyone who thinks things were better in the good old days. Electric light and central heating were wonderful inventions.

Been over, in winter, when the power has been lost for a couple of days. Always aware there were others worse off. We at least could light a fire, and cook the dinner on the range.
Tried to keep everything on the same battery size, AA's, as I had three sets of rechargeable ones with me. The maglite was the odd one out taking "D" cells.

With regards the gas light, have you tried cooking foil on one side of the light?
Hope they have the power back on soon.
