Do they help to keep water in the kettle to stay hot for longer?
Not sure but it's very doubtful due to the amount of blast holes in them

We seem to have had a frost overnight. The sky is grey but there is a light orange horizon to the south. It reminds me of the total eclipse of 2000. We were on Burgh Island at the time to watch it . It was cloudy there but it was fascinating to see the horizon all-round was lit up.

Do they help to keep water in the kettle to stay hot for longer?
Presumably it's to warm them up before putting them on.

Nasty weather forecast but not yet appeared and the sky is very red in a southerly direction.
Calmac are putting out warnings and at least one of our sailings has been cancelled as the boat is being sent to Colonsay.
Never actually landed there but sailed past several times.
Wakened at about 0530 by flashing lights outside which I assume was a gritting lorry so just went back to sleep. Looking out now there does not appear to be any frost here but there are reports of dire snow conditions at Tyndrum at the A85/A82 junction but that is miles away on the mainland.
Nothing planned but may have a trip down to Main St later.

Chap up the road, 100 yards away, was scraping ice of his windscreen at 07:20 as I took Bonnie for a walkies.

Good morning from a cold and gloomy Suffolk. There was thick frost last night, but it looks to have cleared in the early hours.
Coffee has been had and there's one hour to go before leaving for the rail station which means it's breakfast time. Still undecided between Weetabix and Aldi's own brand version of Shreddies.
