Very mixed weather today. No sign of frost so no idea why the gritter was out early and rain started in earnest about lunch time.
High winds forecast so Calmac have put out a warning that the last ferry from Fishnish today will be at 1740.

Had a trip down to Main St as I thought it would be a good idea to get another charging lead for the new iPad.
Brown’s shop is an old established business but recently under new ownership and they have nearly everything anyone may want in stock.
Hinges for my garden gate, washing machine, fridge, freezer, toasters, kettles and even computer leads. They used to do bike spares and repairs as well but not tested that recently.
They may not have your ideal choice in stock but if you are desperate they will deliver what you need and at reasonable prices.
Stopped at the Post Office to get a couple of Bin Mans View calendars but they have sold out and only have ones of Highland Cattle left.

Had an email from work informing me that I've been enrolled on yet more e-learning. Luckily I've done the same one with the other school so can just do the questions. Then another email giving two weeks notice informing me. That we have to attend in person mandatory training session on bullying and harassment. It's made clear that we must attend no matter what. Lasts 30 minutes so most of what I will get paid will just about cover the bus fare. Not sure if the email is as part of it , as the tone some may find to be bullying or harassment.

Nice crisp, frosty morning. The skies were amazing colours on my walk to work. Phone camera can't do it justice.

It's funny that I am the only one who can get here on time, even the trainer is usually late and will be here in ten or fifteen minutes moaning about traffic holding him up.

We had a chemistry teacher at college like that. She lived in the sticks and every time the weather was bad she'd always be late. Going on about snow and having to defrost the lock with a hair dryer. etc , etc. She was one who no matter what it took her x to travel to work. We'd be standing around for most of the lesson waiting some times. Then when she did arrive she'd try and do the whole lesson in what ever time we had left. I'd not mind but the chemistry block was an old gym block and the heating never worked and was freezing most of the time. Yet we had to put with that and her being late. But part of our learning contract was that we should arrive on time if not we got done for it.
To put it into context a consultant we know who lived in same area us to always manage. To get to work on his bike no matter what, if snow got really bad he just slept over at work.

I know anyone can get caught out by circumstances at times, but if you are consistently late, it would seem logical to leave earlier. There again, I'm not management, so what would I know.

So they've been on the bullying and harassment course then ?

It's been a raw and very foggy day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept ok-ish. Spent the morning in the company of a friend and her dogs, walking around the village playing fields. Picked up two volumes on local history in the book exchange on the way home.

On account of the poor light, as well as the weather that's heading this way, I decided to skip luncheon and head out lumberjilling. Took advantage of the fact that there was barely a breath of wind to fell some trees that needed felling; two oaks, half an ash (just cut off the dead half) and a cherry tree.

All went hunky dory until the last. Cut out a wedge from the bottom of the tree, but I did the cut on the opposite side of the trunk just a couple of inches too low. So instead of falling where I wanted it to, the damn tree rocked back and trapped the saw bar. :banghead:

This is a tree that's a foot thick at the base, ergo it's too big to just push back the other way. So yeah, whoops...

So took a load of cut wood back, grabbed some tools from the garage and went back to dismantle the saw. I left the bar and chain wedged in the tree, and brought the saw back, along with a second trailer full of wood. I had intended replacing the bar after the winter anyway, as it's the original bar and is now getting rather worn, but I'm now going to have to go and get a new one before I can continue. I don't need a new chain, as I hadn't got round to disposing the old one - it'll be good enough to cut the bar and chain free.

However, I'm hoping that the storm over the weekend will have enough impetus to topple the tree so that I don't have to...

Anyways, it's time to feed the cat, and then it will be time to feed me.

I've colleagues like that, who live far away and then complain about not being able to make it. For some it's a 5-6 hour journey.

Me? I'm one of the closest and it's 30 minutes by bike. An hour in the snow. I've not missed a session in 23+ years whatever the weather.

Sainsburys shopped but in terms of 5 oranges they only had their cheap ones, the last bag of which I bought were not very good. Asda as a result also shopped and subsequently realised I had dropped a clanger with their app. It had £1.50 as a Christmas Award on it and had offered a £1 voucher or a 50p voucher. I picked had the £1 one but it transpires you need a minimum of a £1 to create a voucher so it will not allow be to use the 50p. And I thought the as Morrisons one was bad whereby what bonus points you have gained simply disappears at the end of the month and you have to hope what is eventually is added on is correct. Sainsburys Nectar one has an Activity page showing all the points awarded and spent - used up £5 worth this evening and appears that another £2.50 can be used on the next visit.
