Dry, sunny but cold day and had to dig out the deicer for the car windscreen this morning as the most important thing to do is make sure the windscreen wipers are not stuck to the windscreen.
First thing down to the Calmac office where I could not get a ferry off at any sensible time of day. Either the first ferry in the morning when I am normally asleep or last one at night were the only options and I will not now drive after dark.on the mainland.
Had a look at the Calmac website and noticed an anomaly so back down to the office where I queried how they could run two ferries an hour apart since the single journey takes over an hour. Transpires that on a single vessel timetable advertised they get another ferry to call in as well but seem to want to keep that quiet. Booked for 0835 with 0805 check in.

Drove round to the garage to get fill of diesel and in the car park my phone rang. Since I do not get junk calls on that phone I had to answer as it could be important.
"This is Tracy from the surgery" who gave me the 3rd degree about my lifestyle ,diet, exercise and what I had for breakfast etc.
Good job I had been warned in advance or I would have dumped the call since I have never met this person.
She did tell me it would not have been wise for me to have gone cycling this morning as the Dervaig road, my normal route, was very slippy as she had a couple of slides going work this morning.

I'm sat in a webinar by a publisher and have been seriously mis-sold the purpose; it's merely an overview of how to teach using their textbook NOT the purpose stated - which was the implication of future concepts in the subject I teach.

Basic wouldn't even begin to describe it!

really? snow? wow, when it occurs, do share! last year didn't get a storm until 1/7/24

Yes snow only thing is not sure how much or when. We are kind of use to here in Yorkshire. We’ve not had a real lot of snow for some time. I do remember a few bad winters. Though I’ve not lived though anything like the winter of 1946. My dad remembered it well. They had to dig the way out the back door.

The heavy snowfall forecast!

A grey and chilly day here chez Casa Reynard after a brightish start.

Slept ok-ish, though it took me a while to drop off. A steady morning doing chores, which included laundry. When it gets very cold, I can't do any laundry as the outlet pipe on the utility room can sometimes freeze, and the consequences aren't worth it. So it's just better to plan ahead in those respects.

I also took three packs (a kilo) of blackberries out of the freezer, and have cooked them along with an equivalent quantity of Jolly Miller apples. They're a mid-season cooker and they're beginning not to keep terribly well. Fortunately I don't have too many of them left, so this was a good way of a) using up the apples so they don't go to waste and b) making some space in the freezer. Tomorrow's main task will be making blackberry & apple jelly.

Also went out to pick up the parental's prescription. Car dashboard was showing 4C on the temperature readout and shouting at me about ice. Popped into Doe's. I now have a new chain for the saw and a new pair of safety glasses as I have misplaced the ones I usually use. I do have goggles, but they steam up as soon as I start to sweat...
