Looks like it might be a nice day tho' not forecast to be sunny.
Library day so that at least gets me out of the house.
The local library is no much use in the non fiction side but the librarian sometimes keeps books aside of me if she thinks I may like them. I live in hope something turns up.
Need to get the ICE trike out and checked over and tyres inflated. It is kept mainly as a spare in case of problems with the Kett.
If going to Oban it would be better but a bit of hassle getting one out of the car and the other one in.

Talking of going to Oban Calmac tell me the first ferry has been cancelled and the next two will be running late. They then wait till I put the phone back in my pocket before telling me the return trips will be late as a consequence. Seems pretty obvious so that can only be aimed at touroid who clutter up our ferries and stop residents being able to travel when they want.

Wish me luck. I'm about to brave the Christmas Markets in Manchester. Daughter wants to go, via Uniqlo. I may need a beer at some point to ease the pain (although the prices are silly - might find a Spoons). On the hunt for a genuine Lancashire Bomb cheese (otherwise I'll mail order some for Christmas).

It's just that waffles in Belgium are as much of a regional thing as anything else. The two most famous kinds are...

Gaufres de Bruxelles: what most people get served in Belgium when ordering a waffle in a cafe or tea room. Yeast-based, not much fat in the batter, very light and fluffy with crisp edges, not overly much flavour i.e. not sweet in any way, large and rectangular, with really big "holes". Always served with sweetened whipped cream and icing sugar. Sometimes with some decorative fruit on the side. These waffles go floppy and rubbery when cold, and so have to be eaten straight away

Gaufres de Liege: a "keeping" waffle that is cakey in texture, yeast-based and very rich in butter, and with pearl sugar mixed into a thick batter. Sold a lot in supermarkets (most in the UK do them), either plain or dipped in chocolate, usually individually wrapped. Not really recommended to make at home unless either a) you have an iron with removable plates, or b) you want to spend hours cleaning the gooey caramel off thanks to the escaped bits of sugar. Also has big holes.

Other kinds of waffles are many, including "quick" recipes made with baking powder but...

Gaufres de Namur: these are the ones that I make, as I've found them the best compromise between the two above. Great when fresh out of the iron, with the aforementioned cream and chocolate sauce, but they also keep well and are great cold, alongside a cup of tea. They are also very good when toasted. Another yeasted recipe, made with butter. These are made with smaller holes.

Not quite the recipe I use, but pretty similar. Uses fresh yeast, so half the quantity of dried i.e. one of those standard sachets of instant yeast should do it.

Boter Galetten: light, crisp, thin and biscuity. Very moreish and prone to snaccidents.

Lukken: traditional for new year in the west flanders, made with butter and brown sugar. Again, light, crisp and biscuity.

The stand in the underground carpark at Cora, Woluwe is the place to get the best waffles.

Over slept. No chance of getting the 0926 for a cycle rendezvous.
Messaged cycling partner.
"Is it today? " was his reply

Left for next train. Very cold went back for thicker jacket. No keys or zapper for the garage. Minutes squandered with security.

Anyway, got thicker jacket and pedalled furiously got the 1026, just. It was 6 mins late fortunately.

Still very cold. Maybe it's the flu injection.

The day evolved.
Still cold and murky .

Wound up with 42 km on the clock and about 10 years taken off my remaining time
Very slow this morning.
Shoulders are stiff, uncomfortable. Gat the exercise sheet out and do them! Ibuprofen as a short term solution.

Pop and make some deliveries and collect my prescription.
The car looks tempting, unless management has taken it early morning meeting. Also refuse to pay parking for 10 mins to pick up prescription.

Good morning from Suffolk where it's yet another drab and dreary start to the day with the continuing cloud cover. A strong coffee has been had as a heart starter after a very good night's sleep.

There's a load of washing currently being dealt with by the machine and once that's been done and put on the clothes horse I'll be off out to get some snacks and food for tomorrow's outing. I might also change the bedding, but as I'm only home today, Monday evening and Tuesday and then back out again on Wednesday, I may leave it until I'm home on Thursday - it will depend on whether I need to put a warmer duvet on.

About as unwarm as yesterday but with addition of damp surfaces.
Due to a turning head outside car occupants typically look straight at the house so years ago I fitted an electric curtain rail to the lounge window. With a light on a timer it consequently means the house looks occupied even when not. The programmable timer for the curtains has stopped working:sad: They work fine off a separately wired push switch.
Have contacted the makers to see if the cable linking the timer to the motor is sourceable as suspecting that rather than the timer itself.
