Probably some sort of update that means it won't be compatible with the technology of older TVs

Yes. Our TV comes up with a warning saying that we won't be able to get it after the end of the month unless we upgrade or get something to plug into it .

My Humax PVR hasn't been able to get ITV catchup since they changed it a couple of years ago, that sort of thing makes me less likely to buy another rather than more likely. Fortunately it'll record up to four channels at once anyway, which enables me to record more than I can be bothered to watch.
