I don't think there is any legal obligation to opt into it at all and nobody actually needs to have the machine. Small shops that don't have room for machines are perfectly entitled to accept the bottles over the counter and give you change from the till.

It's the Re-Turn logo that must be on all cans/bottles sold from June.

Turned out to be a grey & chilly afternoon in Cambridgeshire, but I still had a nice little 40 mile ride. The St. Ives to Cambridge guided busway has a very useful shared space that runs alongside it - apart from the large section somewhere between St. Ives & Swavesey that seems to be almost permanently flooded. I've now got to clean the bike and my shoes as the raised banking used to bypass the flooding had been turned badly muddy by the recent conditions.

Up early on Thursday so really should have an early (for me) night.

On the way home from Cambridge, I stopped off to see Mum again and to pick up my birthday food parcel in advance of Thursday. As a result over the weekend I've got a load of various meats from her local butcher to portion out and freeze as necessary.

Ah! It's back! All of those little characters at the top of each post had disappeared. They are now back again .

I think the battery in my Citizen Eco Drive watch may be on its way out . It had stopped in the night at about 1 o'clock . It might be that it's not getting enough light ?
