I'm surprised at the comments on here from some that should know better tbh. Actually the main culprit isn't even riding!! WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE

I will be in full aldi and deecathlon regalia...

Exactly.

It will be a steady good pace, with a good cafe stop, then a refil later at a supermarket. Target is about 6 hours. I certainly will be doing a steady pace this time. I want a chat and a laugh. Doing it in 5 hours, this doesn't happen

There is only one poster that degenerated this thread and I don't actually think he is riding with us as he said he wanted about a 5 hour time, which this ride is not about.

I'm doing the ride tomorrow. Would you mind if I tag along? I did the 100mile ride last year on my hybrid with a heavy lock (also rode to and from Stockport) and managed the whole thing including stops in 9.5 hours. I'll be on my audax bike tomorrow so hoping to do it including stops in under 8. Not sure what my pace will be, I did the Blackpool ride in roughly 4 hours solo (inc stops), my ave commuting speed with pannier and lock is around 15mph. If you guys end up being way quicker than me I'll drop off and go at my own pace. Where you all meeting and at what time?
Any tips on food? I'm trying to avoid bringing a pannier!

Check page 1 first post and my post on page 3 for location. Meeting 7am for 7:15am depart. Meeting opposite the Northern entrance to Wythenshawe Park, opposite where the start finish straight is, over the road as there is a wide pavement.

Aim to be at the cafe around 10. Full breaky for me, then off again when we feel like it, then a stop at about 70 miles near middle which for a quick refil at a supermarket.

Food wise.

Energy drink in bottle, what type, up to you. Personally I find isostar long energy fine with me, others prefer sis or high5. Or make your own out of juice and water with a pinch of salt.

Food, malt loaf, fruit cake, oat bars, fig rolls. Some folk like jelly babies, but the sugar is simple sugars so only a quick boost. Eat and drink a little and often rather than lots in one go.

Gels if you need them, I won't be bothering as we have two stops to eat real food. Gels are useful if you aren't stopping and going for a fast time.as we are stopping to eat, then you don't need to go mad on supplies.

Drinks 2 to 3 litres of water or energy drink, temperature depending. I will be on a one litre bottle, so refil at cafe and supermarket.

Question: What will be do with the bikes while inside a cafe? I don't plan to lug a lock around (I don't own one anyway) and I am sure no-one else wants to. One person stand guard and someone else order for them?

BTW, I plan to come! Water bottle cage no longer an issue (got a single cage and an 800ml bottle - Don't have a bigger one so will bring a gel also, just in case), also stocked up on granola bars, malt loaf and jelly babies!

I have just checked it will fit comfortably in a jersy pocket (well it fits anyway) so I am intending to bring THIS lock. It will thread through 4 or 5 bike frames so you had better be nice to me!

Think this will be the biggest challenge for me getting the hydration and nutrition right.

Ive got 5 x High 5 energy bars, gonna come out with 2 water bottles with the 4:1 high 5 sachets in and also fetch 3 or 4 more sachets for the water stops along the way.

Might bring a nice chunk of malt loaf for the journey too.

Gonna get up early eat a nice bowl of porridge and honey a banana and get plenty of fluid down me!

Does that sound ok? Im really a novice over the century distance?

I have never done a 100 mile ride, but to me that sounds fine .

I will have some energy drink, 800ml (plus a couple of spare tabs to drop in when we refill), 2 x Gel's (don't intend to use, but they are there if needed, 1 energy gel, 1 caffeine), half a malt loaf sliced up, a bag of jelly babies and some granola bar chopped up and foiled! Also a banana!

May cut back a bit, but if we aren't riding on the rivet, then I will likely eat a fair bit because I am a pig!

Not to speak for others but if you really struggle at some point and need an extra bit of food or a swig of water, I am sure no-one will turn you away if you ask for a bit of drink or a bit of malt loaf.

I think some bullies are determined to cause a fight here while others are just itching to take offense. It's a pleasure ride with a hint of speed thrown in. It IS NOT a club run or a chaingang. Ride what you like and wear what you like! Personally I will probably wear baggy shorts and MTB SPD shoes while riding my skinny road bike which would probably be enough to get me arrested by the roadie fashion Nazis. Am I bothered? On the other hand I might turn up on my hybrid with full panniers and mudguards and give some of the Lycra clad weekend warriors with all the gear but no idea a bloody nose

Fossy, I look forward to this cafe stop:hungry:

It is what it is, you advertised it pretty clearly and if people don't like the arrangement's they can make their own arrangements or just drop off the group if it is way too fast, with so many riders on the road, getting lost will be almost impossible and it wont be too lonely either. I have done some heavy milage this week (by my standards, I am at 150 or so mile so far this week) and also some fast rides, so I might end up dropping off eventually if it takes it's toll (hopefully not), but that's life!

I was planning on riding out with the manc wheelers, but if they are averaging 20 mph, I would either be clinging on for my life all the way, or would get dropped sharpish after 30-40 mile and end up mad suffering from the pace early on and not enjoy it for what it is, my 1st 100 mile ride. This seems a sensible pace to me, last sunday's club ride was and intro ride and averaged 16mph out, 17mph back, 35 mile and it was nice and easy, conversations a plenty. Definatelly not a training ride or chain gang pace.
