NO,NO,NO,NO,NO! Don't be one of those dudes who wears a rucksack even if it is just for food -it's 100 miles it's not a Transcontinental expedition. put your food in your pockets or your seat pack take a couple of bottles and that's it. when the speed starts ramping up you will regret that rucksack believe me. rucksacks are for commuting or shopping.end of. I will be going for sub five hours 15 minutes it is achievable some of you guys will manage it also-400bhp and hacienda defo well within your capabilities.

So will they defo be serving a hearty full English when we arrive (and will we be able to get in the door? I'm guessing there may be a few other cyclists with the same idea!).

Two 1 litre bottles are more than enough for 50 miles.if u need more than this there is something wrong with you.stop making excuses for carrying the bl**dy thing.

What about 4 spare tubes and tools? I can't see a 2l bag slowing anyone down over 100 miles, never noticed mine over 60, and I'd be happily pushing for closer to 5 hours without a stop if the the others here were up for that.

Hi guys/girls new to the forum so hello everyone.
This will be my first century ride, although i do about 120 miles a week my longest ride is 60 miles in 18.9mph solo, what do you think my chances are of getting around this one and is it too brave of me to think i could group ride in the 20mph mark? Ive only really ridden out with 4 to 6 people in the past.

Cheers

Andy

Welcome to the forum. If you do that weekly mileage regularly and have been doing it for a while (6 months?) then you should be ok. Was the 60 miler tha M/cr=Blackpool ride? That pace for 60 should see you fine for 100 at av 17mph. The group riding thing is just a social thing, I for one don't intend to ride a few inches off my compatriots for 100 miles, I don't have the experience or desire to do so. Not sure exactly how many will be in the group now but I think it will probably be less than 10?

Well if you think you need to carry four spare tubes you are frankly an idiot, sorry. why don't you take some hints from people such as club cyclists who regularly ride long distances - you don't see any of them with rucksacks.

Who knew the humble rucksack could cause so much offence.
yeah, maybe i am being a bit harsh. But come on, I'm sure you wanna look the part, and you wanna be the part. And you won't be while you're weaing one of these. Besides which it is a totally unnecessary piece of baggage as you can get evrything you need in pockets, seatpack and boitle cages.People wear rucksacks as a kind of comfort blanket usually because they are intimidated by any kind of distance riding. Leave fhem at home. They are for commuters and mtb'ers only.

The poster said they had a hydration pack, these are much smaller than a rucksack. Generally hydration packs are a no no for roadies as we are snobs. To be honest, if you feel you'll need the liquids then take it. I only have one bottle holder and a 1l bottle, that will just do 50 miles at a fair pace.

You only need two tubes max and a small puncture kit, and a multi tool.
