Puzzle game procrastinator!
I just popped in to wish you all a good ride tomorrow, so - have a good ride! :hello:

While I'm here though - I'm a bit shocked by this sudden outburst of criticism of other riders for what they wear, what they carry, what they drink etc.! This is the kind of thing that puts people off joining road clubs. I see CycleChat as being about 'Us' but this is introducing a rather unpleasant taste of 'Them and Us'!

I'm a rider who drinks a lot on rides, and carries a bag which often includes more than 2 tubes on the basis that it is nice to be able to donate tubes to other riders in need, but why should I have to explain that? I sometimes carry a spare tyre too (no jokes about my waistline, please!) after tubbycyclist split one on one of my forum rides. A little more tolerance please folks!

If you don't fancy the tolerance thing, then please stick to Manchester Wheelers chaingang, average 25 mph on all rides, drink only 250 mL of water per 100 miles and be quietly smug without feeling the need to insult mere mortals!

+ 1

Got a feeling this ride was going to degenerate into a race with an elite section and the 'others', glad I decided not to turn up on my bike resplendant with front and rear racks and a rear bag for wet weather gear, tubes and the odd banana.

It would be interesting to see what happens at any traffic lights that have the audacity to turn red halfway through the peloton though

My fixed gear has no bottle bosses on the frame. As a result I use my Camelbak when I ride that bike.

Any suggestion what else I could do to hydrate without spending money I don't have?

In fact no don't bother, the Camelbak works for me in this situation, I might invest in an alternative when my fixed mileages increase, but until then I shall continue to be sneered at by the elite roadies when I ride fixed with my Camelbak

Saddle mounted bottles! (When you decide you want some bottle cages)

f*** what anyone else thinks, one day I'm going to turn up in a batman costume riding a recumbent and play the dark knight theme through a speaker.
I think they do this already on those Skyrides ;)

BTW, if I come, can someone lend me at bottle cage or 2? I will supply the bottles, but I am waiting on some new bottle cages to be delivered, they didn't come in time and it seems a bit daft to buy some today just for tomorrow when my elite custom cages are already ordered.

I do have a cage but my bottle cage is a wierd one with a specific bottle, but that bottle bounced out last weekend and a car demolished it so I don't have a way of carrying fluids.

Welcome to the forum. If you do that weekly mileage regularly and have been doing it for a while (6 months?) then you should be ok. Was the 60 miler tha M/cr=Blackpool ride? That pace for 60 should see you fine for 100 at av 17mph. The group riding thing is just a social thing, I for one don't intend to ride a few inches off my compatriots for 100 miles, I don't have the experience or desire to do so. Not sure exactly how many will be in the group now but I think it will probably be less than 10?

Skol the 60 miler was a ride around my area of Cheshire but taking in Harthill at Tattenhall and Kelsall Hill, unfortunately to get any decent inclines in to my riding i have to branch out really. The Manchester 100 miler passes within a couple of miles of my house so the ride from around the Northwich area and through Tattenhall-Nantwich and Middlewich is very familiar to me. The Mcr end and The Knutsford/Wilmslow bits will be new to me.

Ive been over the Horshoe Pass and a few other hills in attempt to man up from my below sea level Cheshire stuff! lol

I started cycling at the beginning of the year owing to a sciatic nerve problem, i found the cycling was relieving my pain, i then had my L4 & L5 discs operated on in April, 3 weeks off the bike and since then have been getting at it again with usually 100 miles one week and approx 120 the next. Got told off for doing too long in the saddle but cycling helps to stretch my sciatic nerve and keep me feeling better.

As for the group riding im defo not a 3" off the wheel infront rider but i can usually go quick enough to not be a burden to others and get up the front and do my turn, albeit not for as long a genuinely good riders!

Im actually in the "sponsored event" set off time is 7.30am. But i would love to join a group and do atleast a decent slice of the ride in 20mph pace. Ive been out around the local area and spotted the signs up ready so looking forward to it 2moz.

I'm surprised at the comments on here from some that should know better tbh. Actually the main culprit isn't even riding!! WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE

I will be in full aldi and deecathlon regalia...

I'm doing the ride tomorrow. Would you mind if I tag along? I did the 100mile ride last year on my hybrid with a heavy lock (also rode to and from Stockport) and managed the whole thing including stops in 9.5 hours. I'll be on my audax bike tomorrow so hoping to do it including stops in under 8. Not sure what my pace will be, I did the Blackpool ride in roughly 4 hours solo (inc stops), my ave commuting speed with pannier and lock is around 15mph. If you guys end up being way quicker than me I'll drop off and go at my own pace. Where you all meeting and at what time?
Any tips on food? I'm trying to avoid bringing a pannier!

Since ive been cycling ive met some cracking guys on the lanes, one or two actually pulled me up and set my bike up right when they could see i was too bent in the knee etc.

BUT ive also met some precious one's too who seem right up their own tail pipes! lol

Symptomatic of most sports though i guess.
