@fossyant - so would I but given the mileage I've done - it's now at 47000 miles - you never know. However, that mileage has almost entirely been long motorway journeys to race / children / parent(s) so not exactly stressing the engine.

Yes Honda's are pretty reliable if cared for properly. Motorway miles are the most kindest and best for keeping an engine sweet

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
My poor car has just turned 14. I know I need a new exhaust as one of the brackets broke last week, and the brake pipes are corroding as well.

I think the time has come to send her to the knackers yard and look for a new car. It's due its service, MOT by 21st of next month.

What car is it, may I ask.. Some 14 year old cars have more problems than others!

SMWBO's Honda Jazz has it's MOT today. We'll see if it'll pass; it's a 2009 model that is more than a bit battered. All the toys, however lots of extra dents and scratches.

I had rear brake pads advisories (now sorted) on my 60,000 mile 62 plate Jazz. Front ones were done for the previous October MOT
No other issues.
Good fortune with MrsDC's Jazz 👍

It's a suzuki splash. They are known for the rusting problems but both my suzukis lasted at least 14 years
Nah, keep it, the used car market is crazy at the moment. A new exhaust/bracket and new brake pipes and your good to go.

I’ve just spent the best part of £1k on a service and all round pads and discs on my scenic with 97k on the clock and 10 years old. The repair was cheaper than a trade in for a new car. I know the history of the car.

That's what I keep thinking. But then I think of starting to spend more on it than its worth and my mind wanders off to newer cars. 😆

Even spending more than it's worth is till only likely to be 2 or months repayments on a new car.

If you want something more reliable, more comfortable, or simply nicer then absolutely go for it, but buying a new car almost never makes financial sense.

I've a 2012 Vauxhall Agila as a little run-a-bout car, which was my Mum's. They're the same as a Suzuki Splash but with Vauxhall badges. It's been decent so far but only has 15000 miles. It's being kept should anyone in the family need it.

I'll take the below considering what I was expecting to / fearing would happen:

Interestingly the last time it failed was in 2022 with exactly the same issue. TBH the car's been incredibly reliable since we bought it in 2011 and nothing major has gone wrong.

SWMBO gets to run it for a bit and we'll look to change probably at some point later this year when a very major expense has worked through the finances. NOT a bike-related one unfortunately.

The E-Class has received a lot of love and attention recently with new front tyres and rear brake discs and pads to come tomorrow/Wednesday then it's the dreaded MOT on Thursday. I don't think there's anything for the tester to fail her on but who knows? Fingers crossed

If I get a pass certificate, we'll be heading off up to Newcastle for a few several beers with some ex-army mates ^_^

2018 Mazda due next week, booked in tomorrow while they have a slot and I'm free.
Barring fluid levels and a cursory check of bulbs etc (and I may have left that too late) I just take it as it comes. No concerns, time will tell.
