The E-Class has received a lot of love and attention recently with new front tyres and rear brake discs and pads to come tomorrow/Wednesday then it's the dreaded MOT on Thursday. I don't think there's anything for the tester to fail her on but who knows? Fingers crossed

If I get a pass certificate, we'll be heading off up to Newcastle for a few several beers with some ex-army mates ^_^
I ran out of time to do the discs and pads but the car still came away with a PASS - the rear brakes were noted as advisories. RESULT :bravo:

I've got the brake parts so as long as the weather holds up over the weekend they'll get done then. Another year of happy motoring on the horizon ^_^:okay:

2018 Mazda due next week, booked in tomorrow while they have a slot and I'm free.
Barring fluid levels and a cursory check of bulbs etc (and I may have left that too late) I just take it as it comes. No concerns, time will tell.

All passed with an advisory for rear pads. No surprise they're original and the cars now done 73k.
That'll be a job for this spring/ summer. All good otherwise

I sold on my 2002 Nissan two weeks ago. checked mot and it had passed again yesterday (only had two weeks left). It had done just 1,800 miles last year and 3,000 the year before. It was just hassle I didn't want and we didn't have the space with my new van.

Monday 3rd

Booked the Kodiaq in, at the local test centre

It's not due till end of March, so it's going there during the first week of the month
They can get busy, so making sure I get a slot, by booking so soon

I dropped it off at 08:30, came home, drove over to daughters house in the ‘spare car’
(the ‘free’ Corsa… that’s now on about 430 miles…. since its MOT test…. in September)

The inspecting garage rang about 10:30
Passed (no advisories, same as last year)

I came home, put the Corsa back in the driveway, walked round

Once back in, l had a look at mileage covered by the Kodiaq since last years test (6th March)
It’s only covered 4,970miles

Between the 2023 & 2024 tests, it covered 5,929miles

MOT is CT in France. On my last but one CT, my car failed with a rear fog light being on the wrong side (UK spec car) Strictly speaking correct but... it had happily passed 2 previous CTs. Go figure. Tester having a bad day?

Possibly a change of rules.

Pre-Brexit, they wouldn't have been allowed to fail it for something built in like that if it met the construction regulations here. And although it is a few years since Brexit, they may have only just got around to updating the rules.

Mine is at the local garage as we speak, waiting to be tested. Back tyres might be a sticking point, IMO they are still legal, but we will soon know. An advisory will do, just as long as it passes.
In years gone by, and on cars I actually liked, the tyres would have been replaced pre MOT and other TLC carried out. Now? Just hope for a pass.....

Minor corrosion or likewise to brake pipes perhaps ?
How are the discs, is it's storage ventilated ?

It's been in a Carcoon, so humidity controlled.

Front discs were new year before last, a few hundred miles ago. Rears were new while it was laid up last year.

It's as clean underneath as up top...

... so I'm not banking on and corrosion issues.

Tyres are like new with only 3000 miles on them. But they are 12 years old. No cracking or the like, but an eagle eyed tester might spot the dete code so could get an advisory there. Not a problem anyway, once it has the ticket it's going to the business directly opposite for 4 new hoops.

Should take it to my guy. The advisories he suggested before magically disappeared last M.O.T 🥳 and I quote “Your brakes look brand new, don’t need changing.” That’s not what he said last time, oh well, at this rate I’ll have a brand new car again in 5 years. 😃
