A tyre is scrap at 3mm, the point at which they cease to tread water, and you want to put them on the rear of a heavy high performance car? Youre crazy

Just turning to slicks, excellent grip. 🤣 They will see out this summer, where I drive my car mostly then I'll get some new set of hoops next spring when I start using the car again

You're insane. I've scraped too many corpses off the tarmac to even consider driving round on knackered tyres, even if still legal. The average 35% increase in stopping distance over new boots could mean your life or, even worse, someone else's. It's selfish.

That's why we've just changed the front tyres on SWMBO's Honda Jazz as they were at 3mm. The car may not last the next 6 months but it's a miniscule spend in comparison to any alternative.

I agree
I used to change them on the Octavia estate at 3mm, or just under
At that tread-depth, with '5 up', at 55MPH, on a rain-soaked M62 has seen the traction control light flashing, as they weren't clearing the water fast enough

They're at (about) 4.5mm on the Kodiaq, at the moment

There’ll possibly be a change to something slightly more ‘agressive’ on replacement, maybe General Grabber AT3?

Simple job for a garage.

£47 for then part, half an hour labour. I can live with that - it's then first time in years it's required a penny to get through the test.

Booked in for 4 new tyres tomorrow. Pirellis, as Volvo intended. They still have 7-8mm and zero cracking but they're 12 years old. My life and thwt of my loved ones are worth far more than the few pennies saved trying to eke out dangerous boots.
