I notice that Vine has suddenly stopped going on at 11:30 to trail his show. That exchange struck me as a bit strained at times, perhaps one or both has decided there's no point in keeping up the pretence any more.

Isn't that more to do with the current Piano Room performance arrangements.

I preferred listening to radio when DJ's were actually DJ's and not self-obsessed Presenters trying to further their celebrity careers.

Even one of our local stations The Bay (desperately naff imo but seemingly popular) has presenters who inform viewers where their latest 'gigs' are to be held.

Pre Radio Caroline, Radio One etc ?

This is what's so annoying about R2 nowadays, they are capable of bursts of quality like this, but then spoil it by employing celebrity and rubbish presenters together with a terrible playlist.

Must admit the so called celebrity presenters do get irritating at times

All the time!!🤣🤣

He is 71 already. I guess retirement isn't for him.

Well Years ago I'd listen to Ken Bruce But never thought of him being only 4 years young than myself, I admit to listening to Steve Wright way back in the mists of time as both him and Ken used to be worth a listen. But now its R3 and 4, but having said that did catch the ravings of someone called Owen on R2 about four am the other morning and I admit to laughing out loud with him, can't say I'm ever that upbeat.

From the Mail

The unexpected announcement of the 71-year-old presenter's departure is now said to have sparked discord at the BBC, as many regard it as completely avoidable.

One well-placed source said: 'They definitely wanted to renew his contract but because of a mix-up nobody told him. He is a proud man and did not want to ask. When he told them he was going they were all saying, 'but we were about to offer you a three-year deal'... Bit late.'

A 'mix up'. Someone didn't want him to stay, but didn't want to sack him. This is the better way for them.
