Got so soaked on the commute this afternoon that I had to take shoes, socks and waterproofs off before I entered the flat
At least the rain was warm

Ah - you must have had @Brandane for company ! :giggle:

Nice :hugs:

Impossible, he was clearly in this area.

Oh yea of little faith! As it happens, on Sunday I was out on my bike and rode with the wind from Largs to Glasgow. Not a drop of rain! I then cheated a little bit and took a train home. Ten minutes after I got home and down it came, torrential with gale force winds.

Yes, the storm did start in the afternoon.
You were in Glasgow: obviously there was a delay in the signals you were sending, maybe our transmitter was broken

I blame @ShooglyDougie for inducting me into the "aim at potholes" school of thought. It seems to be running ok after I gave it some attention in a bus shelter!

Ferry back to mainland first thing tomorrow, but I insist that CC Ecosse's 2017 tour MUST be the Hebridean Way cc @Fubar

Utterly stunning. Very jealous of @wicker man (apart from the midges). Thanks again for your help!

Help yersel, I'm behind you all the way...

That's me in the picture btw - Does that make me the official a**e of the Hebridean Cycle Way?^_^

How many days, weeks, months, years would that take CC Ecosse I wonder...?

Monsieur, you are the glorious leader, I am but your humble domestique.
There are 4 (FOUR!) ferries to catch on this trip - it would require someone with your organisational skills to herd this lot!

Not many opportunities for shopping. Might struggle with stopping, though - lots of scenery, monuments and areas of historical significance, particularly once you're onto Harris and Lewis. (Seriously you'd think that people who live on an archipelago would have a better understanding of how islands work )

Five full days' riding would cover it, with a day's transit either side.
I did it in 2 in 2011, 4 this time, by stopping at Reinigeadal on day 2 and adding a loop up to Port of Ness and back down via Dun Carloway and Callanish on day 4.

The main issue is return transport from Stornoway. I don't imagine too many CC'ers will tolerate a 12 hour journey.

Hmmm, yes looking at the website (I'm not doing it, honestly...) it's the logistics of there and back rather than the distances that would be the problem - that, and getting suitable, available accommodation for everyone.

In the meantime Young Edmund, there is THIS still to happen if you are at a loose end??

There is a bike bus from Ullapool to Inverness.

A couple that I met who did the same tour as I did (their first tour, and judging by the lady's expression when asked how she enjoyed it, possibly their last ) were planning on getting it, but I didn't investigate. Now that I have done so, my eyes are watering at the expense.

The other killers are a) getting to Oban and b) accommodation on Barra. There is only one hostel and it's very heavily used.
Outside of Barra things should be easier, there are hostels that accept group bookings (although it's a shame that the excellent Gatliff hostels explicitly do not accept bookings, their rationale is that you just rock up and if you're on foot or bike you won't be turned away, but you can't plan a group expedition on that basis).

This is news to me. I am intrigued and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Having spent a good amount of time driving around Glasgow the last week, I have no idea how people cycle around it. Seems to be non stop traffic lights

It pretty much is - that's why I don't like it and don't often go through to the Campsies.

I've seen me take 7 minutes to travel the first 3 miles into town and 25 to do the next 3. When I worked in Ayrshire, the number of PBs that got scuppered by lights on Kilmarnock Road
