is the taking the wheel on and off easy enough in event of the P fairy visiting?
Yep.

Ah … No.Was the van travelling towards you at 12mph then?
Almost as easy as any other wheel - you just need to fit the disc into its slot as you lift the wheel into place. Not usually a problem …is the taking the wheel on and off easy enough in event of the P fairy visiting?

DO NOT pull the brake lever without either the disc or a spacer in the slot !This.
No mucking about with reconecting v or canti cables or calliper quick release, disc in the slot, axle in dropout, apply brake to check centering, tighten, done
As I posted elsewhere I'm not even remotely convinced by disc brakes on road bikes.
Maybe on winter commuters / hack bikes, definitely on off-roaders, but on a road bike where you might be pushing hard and riding the brakes for a long time on a descent...
It seems faddy. Just like the switch to 25mm tyres. Fiddling while Rome burns etc.

Ah … No.
The van was actually travelling in the same direction at about - what was it you said @Col5632 ? - 12mph, so you were really doing nearly 30mph , hence why you were looking down at your 'puter when the unfortunate coming-together occured !
Elementary physics young Colin!Yeah but you won't need to replace the wheels eventually due to rim wear
Confused
E.g.
During my big crash, the car that hit me was doing ~50 and I was doing ~20 and we were going in the same direction so I had an impact speed of ~30 and survived it.
I then had a second impact (with the ground) which was probably about 25-30 which I don't remember as I was knocked out by the first.
Had I been stationary there's no way I'd have survived.
Had it been an oncoming car that hit me it would have been an impact speed of 70-80 and I'd have been a red smear on the A71.
Which is why helmets are rubbish
I was being facetious, suggesting that you were cycling at 5mph. (17-12)Ouch, so if the van is stationary does that not make my impact still 17mph?
What injuries did you have as a result of that crash?

Bad laceration to my right elbow, cut on my head, lovely road rash on my legs and shoulder, concussion, broken teeth, and most importantly, broken bike :-(
Long term I have mild drain bamage which is manifested as post traumatic epilepsy (which only goes a slight way towards explaining why I am the way I am )
Well, I do - all the timeWish i was doing 5mph at the time
