Two days attending court and so far almost nothing has happened... just a sort of run through of the general process on the first day, then got sent away after 45 minutes as the case had been 'delayed'. Today, it was another 2 p.m start, and they announced the cases that were due to start today had been resolved without the need for a jury - presumably they changed their pleas to guilty and we were sent away after 10 minutes. Early start on Wednesday, so maybe something will actually happen, who knows?!
Doubt it. With 3 of my 4 parents (mother is on 3rd husband) having been lawyers, having worked for them, attended court and done 2 lots of jury service, that is pretty much part of the course. I find it a good time to catch up on reading when in court waiting and gardening when at home waiting...

My experience of being called in for jury service is much the same, sit around for ages then get told to go home :cursing:

I got called up for jury duty two weeks after my 18th birthday. Got taken straight in on the first day for an 11 day case. Pretty interesting but as a naïve young thing I had no idea about the darkness inherent in human nature.

Back in my former life as a Polis, I used to get citations to attend court on a regular basis - probably a couple per week. Days off or night shift, it mattered not - you still had to go (although there was payment involved if it incurred overtime. Nowadays I believe they just change your shift so that no expense is incurred ). At a rough estimate, I would say that only one court attendance in ten actually ended up with me giving evidence.
The rest were ...... accused not turning up; other witnesses not turning up; change of plea (usually plea bargaining where the accused would in effect be let off some charges if they pled guilty to others ); or a bureaucratic mess up.

Well, it seems all your predictions were accurate. I turned up this morning, we were asked to sit in the court-room and told that two of the three scheduled cases weren't going to take place today but we were to stay while they dealt with one case where a jury wasn't required  They then checked if we were needed for any other courts and sent away after about 45 minutes (so, potentially just to phone again tonight and tomorrow then I'm free!)
