This morning was a wee bit breezy! Luckily the gales had subsided a bit by mid-afternoon, so I went and fetched some more leeks and parsnips from the allotment ... pasta with a leeks, bacon & cream for dinner shortly .
By comparison, yesterday was relatively calm ... I went on my first Edinburgh Belles on Bikes ride . Nine lovely ladies set off from Portobello late morning, we were blown along the coast roads to Longniddry, where we stopped at the Summer House coffee shop for an early lunch/scone /choc cookie break - recommended for future CC Rides (soup, roll, tea or coffee & a choc cookie for a fiver). Lots of chocolate & cake chat as well as bikes and generally getting to know each other. We then set off for the hills (mostly just wee bumps/nice gradients really, but into a fairly strong headwind ) up towards West Saltoun, and then back to Portobello via the Pencaitland railway path and the North Esk cycle path. By the time we returned to the promenade, there were only four of us left - who promptly had more food and a good blether at the Beach House cafe, before going our separate ways. The 36 mile loop was the longest ride for two of the ladies, and most of them had never been along any of the route on bikes, so discovering all sorts of unknown (to them) wee roads & paths. No mechanicals, but some of the very shiny bikes had got a wee bit muddy after the railway path... mine is now clean again, and probably a few 100g lighter .
Fingers crossed the Belles take off in the East, too . If they do, I'll be out on my bike at weekends even more often .
