I think the music knowledge of teenagers stops at the Spice Girls - I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want etc ;)
...and what they really really want is a...."zigazig-ah"?

Er, anyone know what one of them is?

Does it involve manly custard?

I suspect manly custrd may have been on the Spice Girls' menu.

When I was a teen I hated the Smiths with a gladioli inserting passion, but changed my mind about them in the early 90s...

I've always liked Goths. Seriously, without exception those that I've met have been really nice people

Totally, one of my friends was a Goth. One night my girlfriend and I went to a Goth disco...yeah sounds mad I know, instead of dancing they just mope around....anyway. I didn't have anything 'Gotthy' to wear so Carol said I could borrow a T shirt or something. She opened her wardrobe and I couldn't believe it. She didn't have a lot of black clothes. She didn't have a single item that was 'not' black!

I liked the Goth scene. There were never any fights, aggro or trouble. Unlike every other pub or club you ever went to.

Do you still get Goths these days, or is everyone you see who looks like a goth now called an emo? I thought goths were more like a musical movement like mods, punks, etc, but emo was more a description of a certain type of teenager.

apparently you do get "goths" these days, but as they seem to think marilyn manson is goth i think they're a very pale imitation of the goths of the '80s.

btw, the smiths, nma, the cure etc were not in themselves goth bands, but a lot of goths liked them.

Very new wave, not sure about goth, most goths would not have a clue who the Visigoths were anyway.

I did!

I think the name 'Goth' really comes from the Victorian idea of the original rather than any great homage to the Visi or Ostro Goths.

The cure invented goth!

Actually, I invented goth, metal, new romantic, mod, ska, two tone and punk...and reggae, soul, funk, disco, and operetas.

Thank you very much....in fact you should be thanking me very much.
