I've had a drink with him, but that's about it. I've got an old Marillion tape at home which they put out before they got a contract. Used to go and watch them in very small clubs and Universities when they toured in the early days. They always used to play "You take the high road.." at the end and the place would go mad.

I've got that tape somewhere - it has the original version of 'Charting The Single' on it, hasn't it ? And the keyboard player was Brian Jelliman back then, iirc. I have a great souvenir back at my folks' place - the original photo-proof of the Fugazi album cover, in the original carboard tube addressed to the band at Nomis Recording Studios where they were rehearsing at the time.

Ahhhh.... Marillion at their height were fantastic. "You take the high road.." was from 'Margaret'. Yep - brought the house down, that one. Especially when they played the "Farewell to 83" New Year's Eve gig in Edinburgh.

"Gie's a bun, gie's a bun, gies a buuuuunnnnn !" ;)

The Mission is about as far as I'm willing to go.

I like the pics Baggy, they take me back to a time when I could grump for Britain.

I own one of their albums....'s ok actually!
..and the Neph rocked. ;)

Modern emo does seem much more mainstream than goth was back when I were a lad... <wanders off muttering into his snakebite and black>

actually, there are one or two good tracks, but most of it gets a resounding "what's that shite" if it comes up on random play on the ipod in the car…

I still play 'Walking On Your Hands' - Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and have occasional Bauhaus binges.

Chuffy, am I right in thinking you may have been a bit of a NMA fan too?
I wouldn't say I was a fan, I've only heard (and got) one album (Thunder and Consolation) but I did like it a lot.

I've always liked Goths. Seriously, without exception those that I've met have been really nice people, generally very articulate and intelligent.

Since when were the Smiths a goth band?

My kids get confused with all this pop music stuff also. I think the music knowledge of teenagers stops at the Spice Girls - I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want etc ;)
