Still part of the team !
Good work dell.
Did you wear longs ?

.
for the first seven miles or so, and then over the Bridge.

I've only ever seen that twice; the 1st time was for the Manchester-Morecambe reccy and the 2nd on the "Deathly Windows" ride, although on that occasion you sported a natty pair of "proper" trousers IIRC !

I'd intended to stop at a sort of works canteen in Flixborough. It serves school dinners gone large for about four quid a go - the only problem being the hill that awaits you when you get under way again.

I remember it, I asked them to take some of the food off my plate 'cos there was no way that I would/could eat it all.
I also remember the hill.

Spool forward six miles, and, on that very hill outside Flixborough, the fish and chips described a perfect arc over my handlebars.

After that I was pretty done in - crawling in to Hull at about 2.15, having taken five and a half hours to do the seventy odd miles.

Epic !
And not in a good way.

As always, I admire your dedication and I'm looking forward to the ride !

Further chapeau! 5 1/2 hours in those conditions is pretty incredible (yes, I'm slower than you & that neck of the woods is as flat as a pancake, but...). Particularly after lunch disagreed with you!

for the first seven miles or so, and then over the Bridge. And let me tell you, that bridge is something in a cross wind. I was glad not to have bladed spokes. I wouldn't be surprised if they closed it tonight.

My big mistake was lunch. I'd intended to stop at a sort of works canteen in Flixborough. It serves school dinners gone large for about four quid a go - the only problem being the hill that awaits you when you get under way again. But........when it started to rain I dropped in to a chippy in Keadby, and I have to say that I was kind of concerned when I started eating. Spool forward six miles, and, on that very hill outside Flixborough, the fish and chips described a perfect arc over my handlebars.

After that I was pretty done in - crawling in to Hull at about 2.15, having taken five and a half hours to do the seventy odd miles.
That sounds like it's made almost entirely of grim.
Looking forward to balmy conditions on the night of the ride.

Does anyone have a GPS file of this route that they'd care to share, please?

This was the route a couple years back: -

I think there's been mention of a change of half-way stop though so it may have changed a little.

I have conceded defeat on this ride to the weather God's.. So even though I wasn't on the list, am a defo no no now. One year, maybe. But for now, the weathers constrained my attempts to do some long distance miles.. Sucks.

The Met Office is suggesting the weaher on this ride might be OK, actually. Certainly a lot warmer than the temperatures currently outside my window, anyway. I'm more interested than usual in the forecast as I'm riding back to London afterwards, BTW.

Potential attendance problem solved....

The rather fine Hull City AFC were playing a home game on the Saturday (Brizzle), okay, not a lot of sleep but not a terrible dilema...

SKY - aaarrrrrggghhh changed the game to Friday night,

Leaves a 'decision' (football or cycling) or, solution how to do both,

luckily big brother who lives in York is attending this game & I have arranged (well a fare bit of faffing) for him to bring me back to York after the game for about 11:30!
