And in other news, as I was getting a few complaints last year about the mirrored bar ends on my bike which were reflecting front lights, I now have some snazzy black carbon ones fitted.

18mm Ø dots of self-adhesive retro-reflective red vinyl ftw.
See me for your's.

@ FD - Does this mean I can leave my P-kit indoors then?

Nope... If I remember correctly, the one time you had a p* fairy visitation, your tyre was a right pain to get off and back on and we had to use the might of 'Teef to do it.. So, my dear, I hope to see extra long tyre levers in your kit.. which will also include those 650c inners too, for shorties... hehehe

did the recce today. Frightful weather. 16 miles of ice at the side of the road, spreading across in to the holes. And east wind that tried to tear my face off.

and Peroni at Cafe Pasaz!

Good work dell.
Did you wear longs ?

.
for the first seven miles or so, and then over the Bridge. And let me tell you, that bridge is something in a cross wind. I was glad not to have bladed spokes. I wouldn't be surprised if they closed it tonight.

My big mistake was lunch. I'd intended to stop at a sort of works canteen in Flixborough. It serves school dinners gone large for about four quid a go - the only problem being the hill that awaits you when you get under way again. But........when it started to rain I dropped in to a chippy in Keadby, and I have to say that I was kind of concerned when I started eating. Spool forward six miles, and, on that very hill outside Flixborough, the fish and chips described a perfect arc over my handlebars.

After that I was pretty done in - crawling in to Hull at about 2.15, having taken five and a half hours to do the seventy odd miles.
