Sorry - we leave York Minster at midnight. There will be a safety talk, so I'll be asking people to get there by 11.40. There will be a couple of e-mails, possibly three, going out to all those who have registered in the ten days or so leading up to the ride - arrangements for the start, stops on the way, my telephone number, weather, tyres, brakes, that kind of stuff

Mike Ball, principal engineer with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said scaffolding would be put up before the closure to save time. “It is regrettable that we have to close the bridge for such a length of time but due to the narrow width of the bridge, together with the extensive and complex nature of the work, it is unavoidable,” he said. “Carrying out the work in the middle of summer will allow contractors to make best use of the natural light as they work around the clock to reopen this bridge as soon as possible.”

The bridge and approach road from Sutton-upon-Derwent will be resurfaced, and the existing traffic signals will be improved and relocated. Pedestrian and cyclist access to the bridge will still be available, but all vehicles will be diverted along the A1079 and via local roads past Newton-upon-Derwent.

A spokesman for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “The repair works will require closure of the bridge, but residents’ access to nearby properties should not be affected by the resurfacing of the approach road.”
Craig - thanks for the link - I didn't know who was in charge, and, having spoken to East Yorks Highways, Mr. Ball will call back this afternoon with confirmation one way or the other.

Groan! DZ - have you had any communication from a chap called Brian Croft? He's a Swansea CTC bod - I saw him last night and he seemed convinced he was registered on this. I will let him know he doesn't seem to be on the list...

Another groan! I'm not directly responsible for this latest Celtic rush on the FNRttC. Its reputation is doing the runaway train thing...

Surely the correct response to having more Welsh riders joining us is 'That's lovely, that, isn't it?'
