So to sum up, this ride is really only going to the nearest open pub between Newhaven and Brighton, losing a few lucky ferry ticket lottery winners along the way.

Sounds perfect

There may be an option to cycle back from Brighton to London too.........

Exactly. I find this so hard to believe this ferry is booked out so soon already. I had a Plan B that involved carrying the Brompton on as hand luggage.
Perhaps the opening gambit needs to be
Comment est-ce que ce bâteau déjà remplis deux mois en avance, même les voyageurs á pied? C'est incroyable!

Don't forget my GPS shows all the pubs. I just need to find an app which tells me which ones open at 8...............

Have you got the Cask Marque app?

Shows you all the pubs where you are that have proper beer and which ones plus addresses and links to their website if they've got one. I'd have thought any pub worth its salt would open early for a gang of sweaty lycra clad cyclists!

Somebody offered to take a seven seater with bikes in...........I can't recall who. If you're out there, could you get in touch?

"Vrai to go" Charlie!

Whilst asking, do you think you might get a bunch of free return billets as recompense... anytime, anyday etc... that only leaves the Paris end to tidy up then. It did cross my mind to ride to Albi and get back from thereabouts... Orleans is nice too. Ah! Taking one's thoughts for a walk...

Note the word option here.

Indeed
I'm in the middle of trying to persuade my heavily pregnant wife that the best thing she wants to do on her first week of maternity leave is meet me for breakfast in Brighton. I suspect if I told her she has to find her own way back to London as well, whilst I cycle, the poor child may grow up never knowing his father...

I'm a bit slow on the uptake on these things, but am I correct in guessing the scenario is that the LD lines would rather suspend the foot passengers at £30 a pop, while they continue to take car bookings at prices (today £121) that steadily increase as the date approaches?

While in no way answering your question, I can add that ehen I rang them they said it was just that crossing that was booked up for bikes. There were plenty of spaces on others.

I don't know about LD Lines but last year when I travelled from Harwich to the Hook of Holland, the ferry had an area on the deck where you lashed your bike to a stand; the effect was to tie it down. I presume they didn't want the bikes rolling about the deck in rough weather. So I suspect there may be a limit on the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry due to this.

Of course this is all a far cry from the days when they used to put you somewhere in the corner and you had to do your own lashing.

BTW I'm one of those in the 22 so looking forward to the ride down.

Is it full for foot passengers as well ?

If not, book as a foot passenger, then turn up with a bit of cardboard. Tape that round the bike, take the front wheel off and claim it is just luggage.

Yes ?
