FNRttC FNRttC to Newhaven, Dieppe and Paris 2011

I've been a bit slow on this one. Can't get a spot on the outbound ferry, so if I make the ride I'll be one of the ones waving wistfully at the ferry as you disappear Dieppewards. Apparently there's not enough room for my bicycle on the ferry, though there is room if I'd like to bring a car. Go figure. I don't know Newhaven - what are the drinking possibilities, and is anyone hanging around for a refresher?

While I'm sure the charms of France can not compare to those of Adrian and co, it's a big ship and it has a lot of room for bikes! I have heard of people sometimes having problems booking it on-line but getting on no problem - either by ringing them up or booking as a ped and turning up with a bike.

I remember reading about a group of 30 or so who went over on it on an organised ride.

Hmmm. I might try it, though I'm warming to the idea of a classic Brighton booze-up with Adrian, Ross & co now, what with the ferry plan not having been terribly sensible in the first place...

Maybe that group of 30 is already booked on? The bikes have a special place along the side of the lorry deck and have to be strapped to the wall so there is a limit to the numbers they can take. It's nowhere near the car bays, so the one doesn't affect the other, if you see what I mean.

Newhaven is ghastly - drinks in Brighton or Lewes would be much better. I'd vote for Lewes, but that's because I live there!

That could be nice too, although last time I was in Lewes the Dellzeqq family all got food poisoning...

Well, I've just called them out of curiosity and they say that they are indeed already fully booked for both bikes and foot passengers on that crossing. There are 22 bikes booked on it. Looks like we will have lots of company.

On this occasion, I meant me! I work until about 12:30am on Saturday nights, so starting the day with a 5am ferry and a six-hour train journey can be a bit of a mistake.

Fahsands of people have all got the same idea - bimble to Paris and drink in the atmosphere. Mostly, they got wind of a leopard among the Carnival of the Friday night Animals, with their Saint-Saens interlude.

If you head towards Lewes that £35 will go 17.5% of the way towards a Circle seat for Rusalka - there are still four available.

There is a harbourside pub in Newhaven, The Hope. Sells Harveys and is perfectly located for the wistful waving.
