That's why Intelligent Octopus is great. Generally speaking I get 7.5p per KWH between 11pm and around 6am. It varies - sometime it can be as longas 9pm to 7am. They are also advising on the greenest nights to recharge if you wand to be extra eco friendly.

The flip side is that your daily rate is higher. I am paying 31.21p per Kwh for day rate. I try now to do laundry during the night for example to take advantage.

I'm not sure which is better, paying less at night and more during the day. I guess if working from home during the day, then maybe intelligent octopus is not too great. Then again, I don't know how much electricity it would take to charge a car overnight Vs powering a home for.daily use during the day. We do a lot of laundry and tumble drying during the day. On weekends I guess we use even more energy during the day.

I am currently in a 4 bed house with my main pc, two 26 inch monitors and a laptop on (I work from home). obviously the Fridge Freezer and Freezer are running as well as the router, some digital photo frames, two mini fridges belonging to my daughters and then a couple of TVs on standby, etc.

My Zappi reports that the house is using 0.6kw of energy at the moment and so far today from midnight to 15:20 is 9.3kw. My daily use yesterday was 16.1kw with peaks around cooking (microwave and oven) and use of the kettle.

On the other hand, my car if charged overnight usually takes on about 50-60kw of energy (battery size is 83kwh but I usually charge at around 20% and go up to between 80% and 100%). So charging the car is about 3 times the amount of energy I use for a normal day when not charging the car.

Our charge amount is around 20-70kw . That is two EVs depending on how much mileage we did the day before

As long as I can also charge my solar batteries then I’m dandy!

Saves money doing laundry at night but I’m risk averse to that !

Absolutely. One of the strengths of the Zappi is that you can set it up to usesolar or wind energy to minimise your draw from the National Grid.

what other chargers do that ? Octopus seem heavily into ohme ? Anyways the charger prices are a bit of scare ! Don’t think there are any grants now ? Certainly up here

We're just going through the process of getting quotes for a solar pv / battery installation. I'm reasonably well clued up about the various bits of kit on the market. One thing we've discovered is that a great many of the Inverters have a 3.5KW charge / discharge rate, so if you make use four hours of cheap overnight rates for example, you can only add 14 Kwh of energy in that time. Same with discharge, if you have a 9kw shower for example, then your batteries are only going to provide 3.5 KWh with the rest coming from the grid.

The grants in England and Wales are now only for renters and businesses. The charger is an expensive bit of kit.
As far as I am aware Ohme are cheaper but don't have Solar integration.

Good point.

We do very little mileage, only need to charge once a week. Most of our electricity needs are during the day time.

You need much higher capacity system to supply or charge >10kW

Most invertors are 3.6 KW mine is , if you draw more than that, it goes to the grid if it needs more or you have zero left in the battery! Higher rated ones mean they will discharge your batteries first before then going to the grid . Most of the EV chargers for home use are 7 kW . So still takes a fair while to charge .

Speaking of Tariffs - I swapped to the Octopus Flux Export tariff for the summer so I got paid for my export.
Looking at the last nine days and I'm down to 20% of the export figure compared to the first 9 days of September.

So going to look at my options to change for the darker months - I have two options from the account page on Octopus :

Loyal Octopus 12M Fixed 224 a month estimated or -
Flexible Octopus still 224 a month estimated.

Neither of these seem to offer off peak reduced prices - and the price per month is a huge increase on what I pay now.
Anyone any idea what's going on here ?

I was noticing that availability of the BYD Dolphin in the UK is imminent. In the north east it seems they will be using SG Petch at Belmont.
The outstanding thing is that it even incorporates a heat pump.
BYD have, slightly strangely, already won various UK awards, despite not being here yet.
